Playing Badminton With the Dwarfs Who Work at the Corner Store

By Cosmic Cairns on December 25, 2018 10:32 pm

This is a bit of a companion piece to my week 15 track.  I thought I'd see the year out on an epic sonic journey.  As such I tried to cram this sucker full of sounds of various origins including voicemails on my phone, microkorg, harmonica, electric guitar, clicking pens, aluminum cans, vocal snippets, and other stuff I'm probably forgetting.  It's been an awesome year being inspired by everyone's tracks.  Have a great 2019 and perhaps I will see you around here in 2020!

Suitably epic! Each element propels the musical story forward in their own way to form a really cool narrative smile Happy new year to you and yours (and Sidney!)

A solid retrospective of the year built on the sonic flotsam and jetsam of 2018. I hear shag carpet, the smell of waffles, anxiety, colors, aliens, crickets, electronic crickets, a tiny jet built for, and flown by crickets, a lone bass player, a band leader in a white tuxedo jacket conducting a swing band of animatronic former U.S. presidents, olives, a doe, a dear, a female dear. I think I hear everything but your cello and popcorn tin. Please try and incorporate cello in the the 2020 remix smile

Its been a pleasure sir. Thanks for the beautifully sung and played music, lyrics and dusting off the cello on occasion. Happy New Year and hope to hear more in 2020!

Yeah, I probably should have incorporated some cello and popcorn tin.  As you said, perhaps a remix will be in order.  Thanks for all the nice comments and for your awesome tracks throughout the year!  Hope to be back in 2020 for sure!

An encyclopedic compendium (always wanted to use that phrase). Thanks for a very enjoyable year.

This is great; sunny and mysterious and psychedelic as hell! Reminds me of some work from Can in the mid 70´s (which is very high praise from me indeed smile, but utterly original and evocative. One of your best so far here I think. Happy new year and see you here in 2020 I hope!

A psychedelic passage into the new year, and a great way to end WB2018.

Happy new year, hope to see you here a year from now!

That is a good phrase... might have to use it for a song title in 2020... smile  Thank you for an enjoyable year also!

Thank you.  I would definitely take a Can from the mid 70's as a great compliment.  Happy new year to you also and definitely hope to hear more from you as well!

Wow, this is a sonic trip! What a fantastic way to wrap up the year!

Great journey to end with, and that title is awesome, I bet you beat those dwarfs? Love hearing all the sounds that pop up here, cool bass line too. The found sound elements you've started using more this year (I think) are a great direction! It's been fun hearing all your tracks this year, always something new and interesting to dig into and learn from. I appreciate your support as well, listening and commenting each week. Should see you here in 2020!

Far out. It's like I can hear forever.

I guess you can't technically be out of tempo is nothing is in tempo.

Happy new year.

An epic retrospective indeed!  So many different textures fading in and out.  The pulsing hi-hat and cricket like sounds give it a live feel as if you had a small band performing smile  Nice work as always!  Best of luck in 2019!

Thanks!  The dwarfs were indeed defeated.  I've always utilized some element of found sound, but I think I did ramp it up a little this year.  Thanks again for listening and going on this journey through the year with me!

Thanks!  It would be fun to try to re-create this with a small band I think.  Best of luck to you as well!
