Fox Follows Queen

By Cosmic Cairns on January 18, 2024 7:50 pm

I'm still pretty sick, so another instrumental it is this week.

I had a dream recently that I was lost in an unfamiliar big city.  I finally remembered that I had a maps app on my phone, so I pulled it out and it told me I had to turn right on an upcoming street called Fox Follows Queen Ave.  I remember thinking that was an interesting name for a street and when I reached it, it turned out to be a cobblestone street and the street sign included a fairy tale like illustration of a fox trailing after a queen underneath the name.

I often forget details of dreams once I wake up, and I don't remember too much else about that one, but for some reason the street name stuck with me.  I don't know what it means, but I've got a lot of song titles to come up with this year, so if my subconscious wants to toss me some ideas, I'm not going to turn them down.

A few nights later I was starting to drift off to sleep and I was thinking about the song title and what kind of song it might be and then I started hearing the main melody in my head.  I've learned from experience if I fall asleep while hearing music in my head, I'll forget it by the time I wake up, so I pulled myself back to full wakefulness and hummed into my phone before going back to bed.

feels like a cyberpunk fairytale! love all the different synth tones coming together in this, and the hardsync just slowly grinding to a halt at the end is a funny way to finish up smile

I love it! Those were some crazy synths in there and I always love your guitar lines. Feel better!

I love when those synths split left and right, and then things just get zany with the modulation haha, gives such a giddy feeling all throughout big_smile
And the ending is perfect too!

love the bounce, and that synth melody is super fun  smile
feel better!

I like the phasor effect with the light piano melody underneath.  Great.

Super cool and uplifting vibes throughout.  I hope you're feelin better soon!

I like the bass chugging along underpinning all the wildness

A jolly time for the fox and the queen. I'm seeing the castle now. There is a castle with lovely grounds at the end of the avenue right? Great happy melody, lifted my spirits on dreary day! Hooray for remembering dreams and capturing ideas!

Thank you for telling us more about the workflow you are using, to bring songs together. Never tried such subconsciously creative methods. I am very sorry for the sickness of yours and wish you a speedy recovery. To this music I want to notice, that I feel the happiness of an child that has birthday and Christmas and holidays at the same time.

hope you get some rest & feel better soon!

Yes! The positive vibe makes me want to bounce around. Something about the tone of the synth lead and the melodies! Capturing positive energy!

Cyberpunk fairytale seems like an apt description.  Glad you could see the humor in the ending.  I thought it was funny, but also maybe "too much."

The synths kept getting crazier the more I added!

Thanks!  Glad to hear the ending is working.  I considered fading it out sooner, but it felt like an accurate representation of how my stuffed up head was feeling at the time!

Thanks!  I was trying to find the right balance of weird and melodic.

Thanks!  Finally feeling better.  And I couldn't let it stop me from trying to be uplifting.

The bass felt like a super important component for me, too.  Something to ground all the crazy.

There's most definitely a castle.  Queens don't lower themselves to live anywhere less spectacular.  I always try to be receptive to whatever my dreams might be telling me, even if I don't understand it.  I wish I could remember them a little better overall, but at least some of them stick sometimes.

If there's anything worth mentioning about the creative process, I'll try to say so throughout the years.  Some songs have more interesting backstories than others.  The subconscious is a good source for some creative ideas, even if I don't always understand them.

Even if I'm under the weather I don't think there's a need to completely abandon positivity.  In fact, that's probably the time you need it more!

hope you're feeling better. jangly and fun tune here!

Don't you just love it when your brain just gives you free ideas from dreams.

It's a little like finding money in the pocket of a pair of pants you haven't worn in a long time.

Well that was a playful romp.  I like the juxtaposition of the mellow synth melodies along with the more abrasive saw tones and that is sounds like some things are played in realtime?

that's so wild about your dream.  awesome title.
i can almost hear your vocals in that lead piano melody.

Maybe it could have been a vocal melody if I'd had a voice at the time.  smile

I'll admit I wondered if I should fade the end out sooner, but I personally enjoyed it way too much.
