Blueshire

By Cosmic Cairns on February 27, 2026 7:35 pm

This week I decided to re-visit a song I wrote in 2017.  It's weird because that seriously doesn't feel like that long ago, but it's nearly a decade.  It's a song I liked and I wanted to see what I could do with it now.

I got the title from a summer camp I remember going to as a kid.  There was kind of a Robin Hood theme to it, which I remember being cool, and the different campsites were portrayed as something like English villages with colors in the name, like Greenwell and Lilacdale.  I specifically remember being in Blueshire.  As much as I have good memories of the place, I'm not literally trying to find it again.  It would be kind of odd for a middle-aged man to show up uninvited at a children's camp (if it's even still there - I have no idea).  Instead I see Blueshire as kind of a symbol for more innocent times filled with adventure and wonder.  And that's something I often wish I could go back to.

Also I want to give a big thanks to everyone who downloaded or checked out my new album.  You all rule!

I'm headed back I'm on my way
Blueshire is calling
Underneath the Milky Way
A million stars are falling

Just like a siren's call
I feel the strong pull

There's no escape it's destiny
Blueshire is waiting
With its peculiar gravity
I'm falling by the way

I have clear memories
Of languid green hillsides
Something inherent to me

I'm crossing miles of fields and moors
Heading back to Blueshire
I've slept on couches and on floors
It's all down to the wire

Onward through redwoods
And tangles of wild roots

I'm going to rest my head someday
In that hidden valley
While everything else fades away
I'm drifting off to sleep

I have clear memories
Of languid green hillsides
Something inherent to me

Leave Blueshire NOW YOU CREEP!! LOL
A place best visited in memories.
I get what you mean though, something about that time of life that is so care free and you don't even know how care free it is yet.
We now have the perspective to know what a special time that was.
Great production and mixing on this one man, really well done all around.

I love the nostalgic feel to this. It's so enticing when life gets heavy. Love the solo!

heading back to Blueshire heart

*love the tone on that fuzzy guitar that comes in towards the end. and these melodies are so evocative

You've nailed the weird British village vibe, I should know, I'm from one big_smile
It's giving Kinks vibe and I'm here for it.

love the melody of the bass, it has such a wavey vibe to it.  Summer camp vibes throughout especially when the fuzz guitar solo comes in.  A triumphant return to Blueshire.

Definitely vibes of a different time, love the fuzz!

Beautiful track. Love that epic guitar solo. Bravo!!!

Lots of peaceful time on the tonic, with a sweet and easy descending bassline to set up your paradise. Really like the clarinet parts, which play into the pastoral vibe. Love the turn with "I've slept on couches and on floors/It's all down to the wire," where I'm not sure if it's *just* remembering sleepovers or if the narrator is having a rough time. And the guitar solo completes the circle, rushing and galloping back through those fields. What's it like to revisit not just a nostalgic song, but your own nostalgia about it?

Love the acoustic guitar with your vocals. I feel the nostalgia there. Nice changes at 1m15.

Cool song.

What a wonderful dreamy track. I can really feel the nostalgia in this. Also, the mixing is wonderful! That guitar solo is so CRISP! I really enjoyed this and I'm keen to hear more of your tracks!

Part of what makes memories and times like that so special is that they are fleeting.  You can't really go back, but if I did I bet a million dollars the place would seem a lot smaller than I remember.  smile

Thanks!  Life is often heavy these days, so a little nostalgic escape once in a while is nice I think.

Can't go wrong with a little bit of fuzz.  Thanks for listening!  Oh yeah, and for buying my album.  You rock!

I'm a yank, but between growing up with this and the Disney Robin Hood cartoon and, yes, the Kinks, among other things, I can't help but romanticize quaint English villages.  I'm sure it's different being from one.  Thanks for listening!

Thanks!  The bass felt like one of the most important elements to me.

Considering the times we find ourselves in, I most certainly long for a different one.  And yay fuzz!

I do like it sometimes when the lyrics are a little ambiguous and can be interpreted differently.  I think all of those things you mention are valid interpretations.  As for revisiting and having nostalgia about a nostalgic song, I think it mostly makes me feel old!  And it gets even worse, in that I remember writing a song that's super nostalgic about childhood even further back in 2001.  And I'm more than twice as old now as I was then.  Heck, I feel super nostalgic about 2001, especially the pre- 9/11 days.  I'm somehow doubtful I'll ever feel nostalgic about the past few years, but I suppose you never know.

Cool song.

Thank you kindly.  Nostalgia is strong with this one.

Thanks for your kind comment!  I am always trying to get better at mixing.  I'll be sure to check out some of your stuff, too!

You have your very own sound, recognizable from the first seconds. Beautiful track that takes us again on a journey with beautiful melodies and a nice solo!

"I have clear memories

Okay, this has to be one of my new favorite choruses / sets of lyrics of all time. REALLY hits home - nothing beats seeing green hillsides in good health, especially if you got to call them home. heart I dig this song on so many levels. Great work Cosmic Cairns!

Now I'm feeling nostalgic for summer camp of youth. Blueshire is such a cool name. Hobbits's? Lovely lyrics and vocals. The lyrics and song really capture the mood and bring some feels here. Nice you revisited an old song. Revisiting old song and and memories I suppose. Nice work!

This is just filled with nostalgia. Really enjoyed this one.

Thank you!  I don't get to see a ton of green hillsides where I live, but there's something about them that tugs at the old heartstrings when I do encounter them.  There's an automatic nostalgic feeling for sure.

Hobbits would fit well here I think.  The camp was Robin Hood themed, but both are based in British mythology.  There's that common draw of forests and adventures.

I remember watching this cartoon a lot in my youth.  It was one of my favorites!

me too cc - they used to play it at the library for us kids on a little screen set up with a reel to reel heart

Another great song.  Love the key change at 1:15 and how the solo busts in at 3:00.

Thanks!  I'm trying to work a few more key changes into some songs.  I do think it often makes things more interesting.

Blueshire may be in your heart, but we can make our own Blueshire.

Hopefully everyone can get a little bit of Blueshire out of this.
