inbetweeners (the core)

prior to discovering weekly beats, one of my new year's resolutions for 2026 was to write an EP's worth of music each month (most of my tracks have been super short, but no one's counting but me). as such, i've been changing up styles and instrumentation each month. the general concept for march is a power trio of drums, bass and synth.

u-he tyrell n6 (7 tracks)
bass guitar
boss dr-110 + linndrum
3 vocal tracks

after writing and recording last week's track in the span of like 4-5 hours, i got right to work on this one and had it mostly done by tuesday. i don't know that i liked being on the opposite end of that spectrum.  working close to the deadline, at some point, you just have to say "fuck it, it's good enough".  having all that extra time, i exported probably 15 different versions of this one. the final version is drastically different from the original (notably a completely different bassline).  finally friday afternoon, i just had to stop tinkering and upload.

thanks for listening!

I absolutely love how you’re exploring monthly themes! Already like how this one is shaping up. That bassline absolutely propels this track, and the percussion is great. Love those claps. Once again, vocals really tie everything together.

One of the best things about WB is how it eventually forces you to stop tinkering!

I really like the track, and having the time to wrap your head around some choices can be great or difficult, it depends...

But I feel the decisions you chose are pretty good. I especially like the back vocals. Maybe finding a little trick to not only end on the 1 would be nice, but I really enjoyed the track!

I love the disco overtones and vocals. Nice soundstage and mix with cool back and forth between instruments. It sounds effortless, which means it must have taken some work.

Vocals sound sick. Love the eq on them!

for sure! output has never been an issue for me, but burnout is real and the best way to combat that is, i think, variety. i tend to do a lot of covers and the 'no covers' rule just means using what i'd like to cover as inspo.  appreciate you continuing to stop by smile

i have a jazz and diy background so 'first take, best take' is often the ethos. giving something time to cook is good, but it becomes easier and easier to overcook.  thanks for the feedback!

the call & response was kind of a happy accident (the glide lead/vocal melody were first), but once i noticed it, i definitely leaned into it.  appreciate the comment!

thank you! glad it sounded okay to you. depending on where i've listened to this track after the fact, it sounds super thin or perfect, no inbetween (no pun intended). we live, we learn.  thanks for listening!
