Shake Awake

By Cakes on February 1, 2026 1:43 am

I had the urge to do some house this week to break things up. 8 bars of doodling on the MPC were bounced down and sequenced in Logic.

This week's personal challenge was to try to dial in some of the reverbs a bit better. I got it to a good place on the synth elements. The Riya Loopmasters vocal I couldn't quite dial in. I also wanted a funky mid-range bass element that I couldn't quite work out. The remnant of those attempts shows up at the tail end of the tune. It just wasn't cohesive with core melodic elements so I ended up just using it with the pad and the FX to create a small variation before winding things down. It bought me a few bars of interest.

The roof has flown off of the house!

Very pretty little twinkles.

Yes! I think the twinkles were my favorite part! That and the pentatonic-sounding bell synth that come every so often.

Always have time for a progressive house tune. Lots of tasty variation in the drums to keep things interesting. It's 07:38 in the morning, I'm shaking awake and it sounds like today will be a good day.

very nice and hypnotic! Has some Underworld vibe to me, which is a very good thing in my book.

Great track! Nice and meditative, but still upbeat.

Wait, you're telling me there are other ways to use reverb than just cranking size and time to the max, every time? tongue /s

This probably would be a good exercise for me, too. I rely on heavy, wet reverbs a lot to gloss over a lot.

love when the bass drops in. everything just cohesively comes together especially all the added ear candy synths twinkling here and there.  a chill head nodder and loved the sound of those pianos at the end with the outro whoosh.

This pentatonic theme reminds me of some Polygon Window stuff.

You're saying you couldn't dial in the vocals. It seems to me that this vocal clip is in a different scale, that makes it sound out of place with the full theme, but you avoid the clash by spacing out the lead with the vocal. The result works just fine, no complaints.

That bass really slots perfectly in your mix here. Wow. Nice work!

Instant head nod. Awesome vibes and great instrument choices.

I remember lovin' this one during the listening party. The drums are so crispy and well-panned.

Gets the blood pumping. Waking me up this morning. Nice one!

Nice chill house vibe with all the ear candy dancing about.

Tight tune, i could drift listening to this till the tires popped

this got my feet moving this morning, and for that i thank you

i'm no Bob Villa, but this house mix sounds great to my ears big_smile

nice track bro very uplifting !!!!

Personal challenge overcome, the reverbs are really good in this

delightful

I keep having to do research when you guys drop these music theory terms on me. But I am learning. Keep them coming!

I appreciate you listening. Glad I could brighten up the morning earlier this week.

That is high praise. I will humbly accept that even if I'm not in their league.

I appreciate that. Bass is always difficult for me. I'm pleased to hear you like it.
