Down With The Reality

By alonemusic on Yesterday 8:09 am

It's a weird one this week. I'm deep in live show prep, and I didn't think I would have time for a proper 'track'. but then I sat with my coffee before work, played a few chords, then started resampling them, pitching down, resampling through the same chain, then repeat. Then I had like, 8 minutes of wirdly nice drone. I'm not a big 'listen to ambience for ages' guy, but I was kinda hooked on the sounds, so I trimmed it back, then added what can only be known as 'sloppy chord improv'. This weirdly also worked, so I added a bit of bass, then the samples come from the live tapes I've been creating.

The whole piece sounds really sad. The live show is framed around people losing themselves to AI affirmations and being drawn into delusional thinking. The line sampled throughout this track is from the transcript of ELIZA, the first chatbot, programmed with a very simple 'doctor/therapy' routine. However, it also feels like the last broadcast of a lost ship, so, why not both, as they say.

I guess I should plug the show, but its an 8 hour durationl performance alongside my animator friend at Animafest in Zagreb, Croatia. If you want to hear a bit of rehersal drone then I popped some up here: https://soundcloud.com/alonemusic/drone-patterns-2

Deeply worried about flying with all my synths big_smile

Anyway. Next weeks track might be more drone, so maybe I've become a drone guy.

I think coming here made me happy

In my experience, a lot of these kind of drone / soundscape kind of tracks end up sounding rather dull. The sounds people use can be amazing, but I find it often lacks story. But this piece has movement and direction. It has feeling. Excellent sound design as well. I wish this one would be twice as long. Continuing to evolve as this piece is pretty and solemn. Well done!

And good luck with the upcoming show!!

It feels like it's building up to something near the end.
