An Unrequited City

By alonemusic on February 28, 2026 7:16 pm

This weeks track takes its title from the Tokyotheque newsletter that pops up in my inbox and makes me miss my travels in Japan (it doesn't take much, I truly love the place as a visitor)

This track was also a monster to finish, I had those beginning loops early in the week, and slowly added the guitar breaks, until that second one felt like it needed to build to something.. I then span my wheels trying to figure that out.

Then I counted how many tracks there were and lo, mixing it also took an age... heh...

Anyway.. ART!

wow - i can imagine how intense it had to be to mix this one! there's a lot going on, but you brought it all together so skillfully and with the emotion of the piece leading the way.
bringing that lead melody back at the end was such a satisfying conclusion.

artwork on point! well done all around, James

Wow!

This is an epic journey. And yeah we can hear it was a lot of work. Love the dynamics and multiple parts of the track. This is HBO series intro worthy material.

Bravo!

Wonderful!  I love how deliberately this develops; the journey feels so natural, but it passes through so many interesting places.  And it's smooth as silk the entire time.

#relatable, pretty much every week tongue  Congrats on absolutely nailing the solution!  That build and final anthem feel well-earned and absolutely triumphant.  Winding down with those soft introspective arps was a great counterpoint/reminder to end on, too.

One of my favorites from this week.

Indeed an epic ride that builds and develops min after min.  Such hopeful vibes at 2:44 when the drums are going off with the lead synth.  Love the drop at 3:50ish.  Awesome cinematic vibes throughout.  Helll yais!

epic and emotional

Incredibly vast piece! There's so many layers to this and you've made them all fit together so well! The guitar breaks are wonderful touches. I really enjoyed the journey this took me on (far away from the office).

Nice ebbs and flows to this.  It really builds up to some triumphant moments.

I love this, it's so pretty, the way these guitars shimmer.

The opening is so dreamy and evocative. The big guitars and energy remind me a lot of Explosions in the Sky

wow this is magic

Smashing art with the obi strip and all! And what a lovely track, builds so elegantly and grippingly.

finally getting on my reply game...

I'm a big Explosions head, if I had all the time I'd try to make every track 10 min of post rock...

Getting peoples brains away from the office is always a good idea... spend some time in space.

Thank you! I'm trying to do better at 'hope'. turns out you need a bit of darkness to get there...

I played this on the radio. thank you for the tune
