WB03 — Drive All Night
My January theme: “Keep it moving"
[Challenge]
Make something complete in as little time as possible between moving house.
[iPad OS]
- Figure by Propellerhead
- Bandlab
[Reflection]
Sometimes there just isn’t time to make something intentional. Then we have to operate fully from intuition. What does it mean to live without worry, without direct consideration, to simply act and feel and then act and feel and then act and then feel? I’m not sure what it means, but I can say that this is a snapshot of what that feeling sounds like. This was a freeing process for sure.
[Improvements]
In the past I’ve been able to make some interesting tracks when I’m more intentional with my creation using Figure — by exporting loops one by one and building variation on the melody instead of doing a live looping performance like this was. But if I did that it wouldn’t be the same vibe, so it’s unclear. I would have loved to have a B section but that’s a bit tricky in Figure.
[Notes]
I simply set up a jam in Figure and then screen recorded it. I imported that into Bandlab’s Stem Splitter and then mixed in in Mix Editor to have some nice reverb, adjust the bass volume and a little distortion/lowpass on the drums and some basic automation fades. Not the highest quality method but enables speed and freedom.
Love to hear what you think, feedback, mix notes, especially hearing artists that this track reminds you of that I should check out!
Much love,
Aemyn
