Upside Down

By XC3N on January 11, 2026 6:09 am

Been dealing with crippling anxiety for the past two days. I had started something else this week but I think I needed something more cathartic... I apologize for the out of tune singing.

---

I wish I could read your heart
I'd keep the answers to myself
I promise
I just want to know
Where I am
And why my head is upside down

The percussion is so good. The vocal melody is catchy as hell.

Le synth full stereo est débile. La vibe aussi.

This feels super raw and real. The vocal delivery kind of reminds me of David Bowie!
Really liking the dark ominous energy, too. Nice! Wishing you a less anxiety-filled week heart

This is just *dripping* with atmosphere. LCD Soundsystem but doomy vibes in the best way.

I keep looking at the Twisted Elektron Therapsid and this made me look at it again haha.

That sucks about the anxiety! I think the singing really makes this. Hope next week is better heart

Sorry about the anxiety, but I like the cold, icy, almost robotic vibe created by this track.  That synth sound that came in briefly around 1:40 was super cool.  Wouldn't have minded hearing a little more of it.

this sounds so determined, like i feel like i can hear you fighting through the anxiety.
i hope it helped to work on it. it made me feel less anxious listening, thank you

Sorry to hear about the anxiety. I know how that goes, and it's not fun.

I feel like I'm in a decade I never experienced while listening to this track. I kind of get Depeche Mode feelings from it.

Singing can only be "out of tune" if it's someone else's music... since you wrote it, you get to define what is "in tune"... just sayin'

I agree with SQF, very catchy track.  Has a kind of late 90's early 00's goth rock, post punk energy, that is VERY much up my street.  Like, this could totally have been part of the OG Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodline soundtrack.

this is really cool! i think the vox sounds great too, giving a kind of VNV nation vibe

hope the anxy calms down a little heart

Echoing the VNV nation vibes! This has a great sound and I love how everything locks into beat with the first synth stabs. Absolutely a direction worth exploring more this was really great!

you are forgiven for the singing
for now
it's a very powerful performance, no denying that

haha well it's nice that you like the drums but it was thrown together very quickly, I'll take it as I am starting to have good reflexes wink I am happy you like the melody despite the performance! ^^

Thanks! C'est le therapsid dans un reverb... une SID par channel donc j'imagine elle sont pas 100% pareilles pis que ça fait un champ stereo plus interessant

Haha man I wish I could sing like Bowie ^^ Thanks for the good wishes, it got better :3 And thanks for listening!

Hey man! Super happy that you like it, always really dig your stuff :3

That synth is awesome, it was the same for me, I kept eyeing it and I was thinking I don't even use the sammich SID so what's the point, I even had 2 more SIDs lying around (sold the others to Nullsleep backstage at blip or 8static haha). Unfortunately you can't get the Therapsid with SIDs anymore... Anyway, when I finally decided to get it, I realized.... fuck that's the sound I had been wanting all this time, the SID sound always was such an inspiration for me (the ADSR bug and noise are annoying, but they can be managed and they easily disappear in the mix)... Now it's in the "never getting rid of this" category along with my Machinedrum, Monomachine and possibly the Lyra 8...

Hey thanks! I am suuuuuper self conscious about the singing but I want to improve! The week got better, too ^^

Yeaaah, it happens, it just got really intense but it's better now... Thanks for listening! The synth you mentioned is a modified preset from Zabutom on Ess' Fors.fm's Junior that just got released, really worth it! I wanted to feature it more but ran out of time wink

Yeah it was quite cathartic, I am really happy it had the same effect on you!

Ah man that's really a cool compliment, thank you so much! I'm a big fan of Sisters of Mercy and a barely known local band called Santeria, this has influences from it for sure...

Hahaha well, you are right about the tuning, however I know which notes I am trying to hit and ... I miss them XD Great praise regarding a great game! Thanks a lot... if you like it I made another song in a similar style this week...

Super high praise coming from you! I wish I could sing as well as you do hehe, I have a lot to learn and even more to practice, but gotta start by starting, right? Things got a bit better, too, thank you for caring heart

Haha yeah I was working with the Roland Tape Echo... you can't exactly tune in a BPM or Tap Tempo on that ^^ I am exploring a bit more in this week's song, if you are interested

Thank you for being understanding! I am happy that you found it impactful heart

As I mentionned to a few people in the comments, I made a track in a similar style on week 3

The main "hollow" synth lead, for lack of a better word, is killer. Lots of Nine Inch Nails and 90s industrial here ... Nice smile

I agree with other comments

raw and real performance. I enjoy the vibe of this song.
(I wish I could write cool lyrics as you did big_smile )

(Hope your life's been better since week2)

oooh when the beat kicks in with the deep synth pad hell yais! i hope things have been getting better for you.

Thanks! That's the Erica Synths DB-01 Bassline with the Moog MF Phaser plugin on top hehe. I was struggling getting stuff to work in Live for that week so I didn't get to do good takes where I modulate it during the recording, the phaser ended up doing the heavy lifting haha

Thanks for listening! Super intimidating to try and do this kind of singing for me, it's a first... The lyrics were the first part of a pretty lame poem I wrote to try and make sense of what I'm going through... Things are getting better but I think you can see some obious themes in my songs so far...

Thanks! I was kinda worried that this 30 secs repetitive intro was a bit too much, but it was too late to change it. It does end up providing a good contrast from when the other instruments drop though!

Things are a bit better, just going through a lot of unstability right now, thanks for caring!
