In the Marshes of Karyerosk

By XC3N on February 4, 2024 10:26 pm

Another rushed submission this week, here is another preview of another track I am working on for a future project.

I really struggled with mastering that one, any amount of limiting made a creaking sound I was not able to get entirely rid of...

100% Plogue FM Plugins + Saturation/Tape/Reverb/Delay plugins

This definitely is in a marsh, has a very cold, wet, dark and spooky vibe.

I like this one. Excellent cold FM patches. It's a good contrast to the analog tape hiss, compression, and saturation.

ooh, plogue FM! I was going to say this had strong yamaha FM energy, especially love the bassy pads. Really cool spooky atmosphere. Is this for a game soundtrack? Cause it would totally work for that.

Omg, the flute at 1:00 feels so... sad and emotive, reminding of long lost traditions that are holding on before they are forgotten! How did you do that??? This is lovely and moving! The bell tingles at 1:35 feel ominous but also hopeful. I am SUPER digging this track!!! If this is a wip, then I can't wait to hear the finished product!!!

That's what I was going for, I am happy that it works haha, thanks!

It's for a strange concept dungeonsynth album I am working on with ??? And yes, this one uses PortaFM, MD and OPS7 so full on Yamaha Classics! TBH I use a lot of patches found in VGM files as starting points so that's probably why it sounds very video game-y?

I am not sure how I did it? haha it's a DX7 patch going through Valhalla SuperMassive (a free VST you have to get if you don't have it!)... the only other thing is that I went out of my way not to put all the notes on precise beats, using a lot of note delays and emplacements I don't usually work with on a tracker. Glad you like it! I am working with a friend to produce a full album of this, and his tracks are even better than mine XD

NICELY DEPRESSING in other words nailed it

you should ask david for a corporate-looking Plogue Sales Rep polo shirt at this point if u haven't already!!!

Such a great, ominous and dark vibe.  Great use of FM synthesis

Thanks!! I'm really glad you like it :3

spooky atmosphere, I'm staying away from these marshes

cool flute part at 01:55!

Wow, the vibes and flute are very spooky.  Then it gets all John Carpenter at 1:35 - Excellent! The music really tells a story.

Hi praise, thanks! I watched 'The Fog' last night to celebrate ^^ (true story!)

I like the borderline sensation of "it makes me feel like lofi but I really know it's quite well mastered".

Shiny mix, sinister feelings. You Sir seem like being the Lord of FM Dungeons these weeks smile

I meant ...

Spooky vibes immediately with that opening synth.  Gave me visions of an unaired X-Files episode smile  The flute gives it an extra mystical feel too.  Sorta reminded me a lil of Aphex Twin's darker ambient tracks.
