The Next Chapter Starts With A Bay Sunrise

By Vivi on October 13, 2024 2:46 pm

I wrote most of this around dawn, sitting around on the other side of the world after a long flight, waiting out the hours before I could check in at my hotel. It was the start of a week that, one way or the other, is going to have a huge impact on my life. A time for reflection.

Oh man I love the mix of speedy bits... that bouncing ball sound, the quick notes, hat shuffle. I love how trance-y it is too. Not just atmospheric but really flirting with trance-y sounds and that great vocal. Absolutely rad.

Okay, I think I've mentioned this in a couple of people's submissions throughout the year, but that opener here REALLY reminds me of the soundtrack for a puzzle game called Lumines.
This also gives me strong PS1 racer vibes until the 1:30. But then, the chippy sounds trickle in and it just becomes its own thing.
Very well done! Super unique, incredibly fun.

This is super nice. I really gotta escape the m8 and play with some better reverbs

This is all M8, but I hear that, its the one thing I end up longing for when using it

That's all M8 reverb? No samples with verb already in them? Damn. are you doing much resampling?

Stellar synths and wonderful vocals. Very nice.

Ah I wouldn't say these vocal samples are dry but most of them they are absolutely drenched in m8 verb, like, C0 level + a lot of delay. The sweeping noises at the start are wet with a lot of reverb though which adds a lot of air to the mix to be fair.

I find the usability of the m8 verb depends a lot on the instrument. It's less nice on the synths for the most part (although it can be good for drones) but can still be good on vox and other samples.

Totally.. I find sampled real instruments work pretty well, I guess because they have complex timbres that tend to be a bit softer than most synth stuff.

I started a convo about it on the discord a while ago: https://discord.com/channels/709264126240620591/753319444406730873/1272520886347497493

Still find it super hit-and-miss, but I guess that just means I need yo try and fail more often.

Very dope track, I love the synth voice that comes in around 1:20 and the rest of the melodic section that follows.  Great sense of building energy.
