Sodden Vale

Another semi-ambient tune this week. Just the mood I'm in, I suppose. I was working on a more complex acoustic tune, one that I'm pretty excited about, but I seem to be struggling with finding the right sound for the drums on that one. I planned on working on that one yesterday but I got a pretty bad migraine that made it hard to commit the time and focus it needed.

This song is actually a fragment of that unfinished one. I don't know if this will remain exactly as it is when it's placed back in the song it's supposed to belong to because I'm trying to match the music to whatever lyrical themes are present. Regardless, I think it stands on it's own pretty decently for a weeklybeat.

This is kind of that path I've been exploring for more experimental stuff fused with acoustic guitar music (and probably some metal at some point, we'll see!) I had quite a bit of fun with the prolonged soundscape in the center. I grabbed all kinds of objects around the room to record on the fly, like tapping the side of a glass candle, ratcheting the gear on my desktop metronome, some more tinwhistle, whispering nonsense like a lunatic, all while doing some noodling on the guitar and piano. I just like seeing what it all creates in the end.

Oof, migraines are a literal headache. 😓Hope you’re feeling better. Your ambient tunes are always awesome, and this one came out eerily beautiful and solemn. Nice work!

What a treat. I am shocked by the composition quality, the different atmospheres you take us through (these eeries flutes!!!), and the whole production of the track. It reminds me sometimes of Angelo Badalamenti. This is an absurd level of quality. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Sounding great once again. Lush 300x

Love this, it's gloomy but hifi at the same time. Great atmosphere!

Such a great guitar tone, so many layers, a real atmosphere you’ve made. Eeeeerie killer work

PS
Wow. The texture in the L and R are chef's french kiss.

The ghosts in my basement have stopped trying to be discreet now. They came out to listen to this with me.

This is really impressive. That high pitched sound sort of shimmering on top as a tension builder then going away and teasing back. Amazing sound sourcing and design on this one.

Yoooooo, that vocal pad that comes in to like intro the piano at 0:34... such a nice touch.  And the textural development leading into the piano at the end... Very Danny Elfman energy on this one... super cinematic.  Feels like exploring some dark forgotten and magical place that we are not suppose to be.

WTF dude. You are crushing it this year.

This was absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed every second of this. So haunting, solemn and foreboding. And that end was just perfect. Awesome job!

damn that earcandy is sick

sorry to hear about the migraine i hope you're feeling much better this week.  I love the instrumentation in this and how the melody gets echoed with the guitar and piano at the same time.  Ooof those chords going from the guitar to the piano so good. The soundscape is awesome and tense.  It really lets go when the piano/guitar returns.  \m/

Love the ambience of this track. The sounds are so beautifully crafted.

The piano makes it so good. Lovely piece, really soundtrack-y in the best way. The middle section is perfect!

Make me feel like I'm playing a dark immersive video game with apocalyptic stuff are happening. I love this atmosphere, no drums needed in my opinion. I appreciated a lot the the guitars with strings sound and all others textures. Bravo!

Oh wow, Loom, great piece.

Feels like im nearing the climax of a (really good) point&click detective game and everything relies on my next few choices.

this is so immersive, I love where it goes and the mood it brings.

reminds me a lot of the Roadwarden ost, great atmosphere

Thanks! I felt better by the time of upload, but man, migraines are always the biggest wrench in (the way I feel about) my creative output. I could be feeling inspired one week and then boom, migraine, inspiration gone. But honestly, when I got back and listen to some tracks I can't even tell that I was operating at diminished capacity so I guess that's something.

An Angelo Badalementi comparison?! You make me blush, Kedbreak. Thanks for such high praise smile

I absolutely love the pun, lol. This was certainly inspired by Toby Driver--probably Amaranth the Peddler because I listened to it recently. And yeah, I'm generally pretty bad about panning things to create stereo space but I'm pretty happy with how this came out smile

Funnily enough, while this tune wasn't inspired by Roadwarden, the track "Pelt of the North" was absolutely an inspiration for a track I made in 2024 called "City Under Shadow". I think it's maybe pretty obvious now that I point it out but I never thought I'd hear someone mention the Roadwarden soundtrack, haha. But yes, the score in that game has a big mood smile

You make very good use of the new acoustic guitar. It is super cool to hear that this "new" toy is giving you inspiration to make those beautiful tracks.

Guitar is very nice by itself, but the orchestration with the pianos and sfx just pulls everything up a notch!

Very good!

Beautifully pensive with a touch of darkness that commands my respect: like the track holds an expansive sense of calm, but as a listener you're encouraged not so much to relax to it, but to accept both the light and the dark as part of its unrelenting beauty.

that piano the second it comes in with the guitar is just beautiful. feels extremely dark and gothic, i could be looking out the window of dracula's castle heart an easy favorite. all the foley too, just yes !!

Wow

Fantastic, in both senses of the word. Some of those chords are so crunchy while staying so dreamy.

Dang the intro is moody af, really pulls you in that dark and mysterious ambiance... sorry for doing the VGM thing again, but it would be right at home in an action RPG, actually reminded me of the Grim Dawn OST

The guitar sounds so clean and full too, good job on the mix, love the panning effects on the synths

Would've loved to hear distant bells around 2:00, but those little percussion sounds are really well fitting, too

Haunting voices ftw!

Seriously, this is really well done

you are so good at what you do. it's a treat to experience this music, thank you

Sounds like an early Antimatter track. Like, literally expected to hear Mick Moss or Michelle Richfield at any point. Hugely illustrative, and definitely a slowburn, but the piano and choir bits at the end are definitely a worthwhile payoff. Love it.

Holy cow, this is quite a journey and it got pretty spooky in the middle there.  just terrific
