Still experimenting with that guitar tuning I utilized in last week’s song (DGDAAE) but exploring more dissonant chord voicings through distortion. I also finished playing Blasphemous 2 and Tails of Iron this week, thus the combination of metal and rats. No vocals though, which is a fail on my part for starting so late.

I restrung my guitar this week with lighter gauge strings, which feels crazy different when I’m so used to medium gauges. I feel like fretting barely takes any effort to the point that I can even barre frets with my pinky with ease.
Anyways, after restringing I went out to my garage and recorded some ideas on my Zoom H4N while playing through my Orange Rockerverb which has been collecting dust since my band separated. I came up with pretty much all the riffs in that one 15 minute session but then in classic Viridian fashion I decided to wait until Saturday night before doing anything with that material.
That kind of bit me in the ass. Last night I wanted to try a different method of recording into my DAW where I render each guitar take after I record it and then double it up for that Left/Right Panning (I run the guitar direct into my interface and process it with Guitar Rig 5/BiasFx). I did that for a few reasons: 1. It allows me to run less instances of amp sims to save CPU/Ram 2. Allows me greater control while I try “multing” my mix, which I never do. But that presented its own set of problems as I ended up doing some sloppy takes and then have a hell of a time trying to get the drums to match the rhythm. I’m also not super happy with the overall guitar tone and kind of which I could tweak it, but alas, I cannot at this stage. And ultimately, it also didn’t seem to help my CPU/Ram problems that I’ve been having lately because my computer is still struggling to keep up. Not sure why, I guess I need to start upgrading components again.
Overall, the track is alright. A lot of missed potential due to procrastination.
