Departure

Weird song alert! Kind of experimenting with a different kind of sound here and taking a risk with my vocals.

Spent quite a bit of time on this and I ended up losing perspective during the mixing process. I'd love to hear any feedback on how I could have mixed this better. I can never really quite figure out how to get the drums to sit right in a mix and I used both an electric and acoustic kit here.

I dunno what cringecore is, but apparently I'm really into it if this track is anything to go by. big_smile

Whoa, that finale took me by surprise. Pretty impactful stuff - and heck, just plain pretty in general. You always seem to know your way around some ethereally beautiful harmonies!

I like the slow feel of this one. That falsetto vocal at around 1:28 right before the guitar solo is really awesome. I really like the nice layering you have of all the guitar layers. I also really like that phrase in the solo around 1:50. The introduction of the eletronic drums in the outro is a nice touch too. This is a good song!

That last section coming in at 2:03 is powerful, really nice. I also dig the electronic drums, I have zero know-how for stuff like that. I dig this a lot

Something about "from the deep" with that falsetto delivery really struck me. I think the vocals are way better than you're giving yourself credit for. Follow orangedrink's guidelines!

Mix feedback: vocals too dark for my taste. I want upper-mid and high boost (2.5k, 8k) to make them crispy and cutting.

So so beautiful sound and chord progressions on 2:03, a feeling of slow falling and losing hope. Your journey to lead there is mysterious and wonderful sound also, I love the story inside your music.

I don't know on mixing, it sounds good I think. If I can say, on after 2:03, less change on the drums would keep the feeling more, maybe. Anyway it's a great song smile

Great stuff. The big synths paired up with the tight electronic drums feel alot like the new wave of art-pop/rock, while simultaneously feeling vintage. Nothing wrong with the vocals either, they fit perfectly with the rest of the track.

Nice 80's sound palette vibes there. Very interesting chords. I quite like the guitar solo. The little break at 2 min is super impactful.

Impressive. Well done.

Wow, this is pretty cool. I really like the beat drop at 2:00 with the more powerful vocal. Definitely has a psychedelic vibe for me.

YES! Stretchin' the boundaries, but in a very enticing way for the listener... everything sounds so clear and deliberate, yet still constantly pleasantly unfamiliar... great songwriting, and those lush synth pads complement your voice beautifully(also, nice work on processing the vocals, not too much, not too little, sits just right)! heart

If Billy Corgan could sing right and softer, he maybe would sound like your voice. And if he comes to Level42, it could sound a bit like this track. Still, this composition is unreachable.

Dude, your vocals are getting better and better! I need to try and add some eventually! Sharon really liked your lyrics smile

These vocals sound great!

strong indie prog vibes!  the melodies and chord progressions remind me almost of a more synthy take on Once and Future Band

quality pop! Very soothing and athmospheric...

This is really awesome. I like how you worked with the constraints enforced by that moving 7th chord--the way you're treating the chord and vocal melody over it reminds me of later 70s Steely Dan with Larry Carlton on guitar. Tasty stuff!

For making the drums sit better...I'd suggest maybe pulling down the level of the synth pad a little, and maybe send the drums through a room-sized convolution reverb, along with some other instruments--that can help simulate the "oh, this was all happening in the same room" effect.

A very cool piece!

I hear the joga influence when those frenetic kicks explode with your vocals. The lil shaking synth rise up to it makes it even more dramatic. Mission accomplished in mind.  Really enjoying your vocals in this mix space too with the synths and those sparkling verby guitars.  The lead sounds great but those lil back n forth mid tones had me hooked.  Excellent!

Great song! Love the vibe. Wow your vocal is so good, really captivating. I thought of tame impala a bit, and 70s psch rock stuff. Interesting in the song notes about the key exploration. I was noticing something, but couldn't name it until read those. Awesome you stretched and explored on this. I'd dig more like this for sure.

crazy chord progressions

The vocals are really great. The dynamics in this track are very well done. I like how you change the dynamic of the track from 0:41 - the mix is really good there. The track gets really epic at 2:06 onward. Very good. The guitar lines are taaaasty - loved the parts at 1:47 and 1:52 with the melodic minor-ish vibe. Delightful!

So I think the issue is the mix of the drumkit itself.  On one of the kits, the hi-hat is too quiet compared to the snare and kick.  So maybe just listen to each kit's elements where they play singularly, and then together.  I'm not sure how you're doing it, but I'd basically take the kit, level out the elements, then put them in one group/buss with light compression.  Then I'd do the same with the other kit.  THEN I'd put both kits in group with compression so when both kits are playing, you're not getting twice the volume going.

BUT overall the dynamics are good like Kedbreak says, that volume jump at 2:06 is so sick

This song is SUPER rad / creative / different - keep going!!!

HA!

These pads upfront work for me super well
lmao love the billy corgan diss / viridianloom compliment combo from Q-Rosh.
Damn this solo around the halfway mark had some licks that gave me stink face. And DAMN from 2m on! Just like I said about the previous week, you keep giving and giving as the song goes on, I can't get complacent for a second and I love it

I like what you're cooking here, a bit of prog befitting Shadow Academy.
