Sleep Awake Evening Train

By ViridianLoom on February 9, 2020 10:26 pm

So yeah, this is kind a weird one. Didn't know what I wanted to do this week so I started with an acoustic track, then a metal track, and nothing was really inspiring me until I did this. No idea if this is gonna connect with anyone but I kind of enjoy it, its different. Transitions could be better but eh.

Update on my drum situation: For this one I actually didn't use Battery, I used Studio Drummer within Kontakt. I immediately noticed it sounded way better and more like real drums so I was pretty happy with it. I also found out it had drum grooves, I used a quite a few of the grooves in here with minor tweaks, the last beat is entirely created from scratch which is probably why its weird. Thanks to all the helpful feedback given to me regarding writing/mixing drums smile

This kinda makes me think of the tracks in Digital Devil Saga. Very chill, love it.

Nice, chill tracks to ride on for sure.

Strikes me as both soothing and mysterious.  Neat stuff!

Thought the transitions were good, the whole track felt cohesive for me. In this context, the outtro being a little "different" worked really well. Still learning how to mix well myself, so I didn't hear anything in this mix that stood out as needing a major change. If I had a magic wand, I'd be interested in hearing if how this would sound if more instruments were panned R/L.

That's actually something I keep forgetting to do haha. I mostly remember to pan when I'm working on heavy stuff because then I'm usually double tracking. Probably would have helped this one to pan the synth and guitar to opposite spectrums. I'll need to keep that in mind in the future. Thank you for the feedback smile

I love the guitars in this. Hauntingly beautiful melody. That solo rules! I love the ending drums and the transitions worked for me.

Glad you got the drums working! They sound great here! Love the delicious bass flourishes at the end... would love to hear more!

Nice track!  Drums sound great as does the guitar.  I agree with @ngineer: that solo rocks!

listening to your guitars, i think you might wanna give this record a listen: kraan / flyday.
it's from 1978. i love guitarist peter wolbrandt's work.

The ambient noises and the overall vibe in this one is strong

Holy shit this is gorgeous. Really giving me some real prog rock vibes. Nice mixing on Studio Drummer as well! Came out sounding nice and crisp.

Am i wrong to get starcraft vibes from this? It sounds great!

I mean, I did play a ton of starcraft growing up and the Terran themes in particular are burned into my subconscious so I wouldn't be surprised if some of that found its way into the song even if I didn't intend it. Although I have TRIED to write Starcraft themed music before tongue

Thank you! Prog is in my DNA tongue, even when I'm trying to keep things simple which is what this song was trying to be.

I started listening to Kraan the past couple of days and I dig em! I particularly really like that song Akua, so chill and full of feeling.
