Went with a single track live performance this week. Spent half a day patching and finding the interesting modulation points. This is still a pretty long process for me, but I'm getting quicker. After that, I tried to find some interesting performance moves that I could reasonably pull off live. Practiced for a couple hours and then recorded a couple takes. 2nd take was good enough so I stuck with it. Edited out about 20 seconds of it for better structure and did some EQ and mastering.

The mastering was especially tricky for me on this one. I feel like the track falls apart playing through anything that can't reproduce the sub bass frequencies. Not having a separate track for the bass made this an even bigger problem. Probably just an experience issue, but a lesson learned. Sounds good through all my headphones, but absolute trash on my sub-less speakers hah.

Other than sound design, I wanted to focus on experimenting with rhythm and time. So, there's a lot of movement in that domain throughout the performance. I think some of the time movement turned out pretty neat and want to explore it further.

Hope everyone is well, and congrats on week 7 smile

It sounds phenomenal. Did you make a video of the performance? Would love to hear this live too.

Thanks! I don't have a YouTube, so taking video isn't something I've ever really thought about doing. WB is the only place anything I'm working on gets shared at the moment. I haven't played shows or released anything in many years, back when I used to play in bands.

Taking video might help me remember how certain things were done after the fact though. I don't tend to save or reuse patches, and there's a lot of improvised manual modulation happening. Remembering how certain things were done can be a problem sometimes.

cool crunchy tones that sound like it turns into a bad trip. keep up the good work

This sounds absolutely huge and so full. I see what you mean about rhythm and time, I think around :44 to 1:05 was one such instance, it was a trip to move between those two feelings.

I'm wearing headphones, but it sounds great to me.  Super huge.  Awesome that you were able to pull this off live.

Thanks! I seem to be getting a lot reactions like "bad trip", "scary", "freaked me out", etc. these past couple weeks. I get that these descriptions aren't being used in a negative way, but uh not sure what it means that these are the sounds that are most immediately appealing to me during the sound design phase hah. Something to reflect on. Maybe change things up next week for a change of pace big_smile

Thank you! Yeah, that section is definitely the most jarring of the time changes. The phrase slowly morphs from 3/4 to 4/4 time instead of changing immediately which feels a bit weird but I thought would be interesting to try.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it and happy the performance came off clean big_smile

Sounds super! Those time changes really keeps you engaged. Interesting title, brings pictures of some creature growing out of a petri dish or something. Also super cool with a live performance!

very cool sounds! love how it deconstructs at the end and the high tones get stretched out

cool track, congrats!

love how this feels like pieces of a puzzle that slowly assemble themselves into this plodding creature (at least to my ears!)
