Mad Dog

By Tweaklab on January 12, 2020 11:52 pm

Another little one minute ditty, I'm using these first few weeks to get comfortable at hearing my own voice in editing etc so I can get better at recording vocals. Having said that, 2 for 2 WeeklyBeats with vocals for 2020 so far!

This song was inspired by the LaserDisc Light Gun game Mad Dog McCree, to avoid copyright issues, I recorded the samples myself big_smile. I had written more lyrics than what made the cut (this is what I get for starting with less than 2 hours to go) but the in-joke about this game, and how it came to inspire my vocals this week, is that I remember getting the game on the Wii back in 2009 or so, and it annoyed the heck out of my now wife! "You're in my daddy's town now!" "You've only got, one, life, left." and I thought, what better way to honour that, than to write a song using those very lines so that I can show it to her later. smile

I went with a bit of a jazzy, funk/slap/bass (all instruments live except for the drums too) type of thing, there's a little bit of Primus, Chilli Peppers I guess you could say, and some sweet Beatles inspired drum fills. Admittedly, I cut up and looped a bunch of stuff (I was originally trying to make something more electronic sounding) so I might revisit this one some time in the future.

Lyrics:

You're in my daddy's town now.

One life left.
That includes this one, don't share it with no one.
One life left.
Don't take it for granted, you're already half dead.

Short, sweet, and catchy.  Always nice to hear some vocals.  Nice job.

Thank you! I'm regretting the fact I didn't make this tune at least twice as long, it has plenty of ground for a chorus and come back for another verse. Appreciate the feedback smile

Rock on. Like the bass tone. I'll have some bass soon too. I was able to steal a bass from the bassist of my band.

Thanks heaps, this is my second track using the bass so I really appreciate it haha. The whole track in a way was an excuse to get better at slapping some octaves and getting a decent tone into the mix. Very keen to feature it in more WB this year smile awesome that you've got some bass brewing too!

'You're in my daddy's town now' is now officially the most quotable weeklybeats lyric

Hell ya! There are so many great tones and pre-sets on there. Can never go wrong. I just downloaded TSE BOD and it works great as well.

Menacing, the vocals could use a filter to match the rest of the instruments though.
