Atomik City (Panic is Total)

By NWSPR on January 12, 2020 11:53 pm

Hey kids, hope you had an awesome summer break. Happy to be back for class of 2020. Last week I zoned out and didn't realize it was time to post the track so this week, I am posting two tracks as one.

Atomik City is taken from the 80's workers town in the Soviet Union several kilometers from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant as it was nicknamed. It symbolized the future of the peaceful atom.

Panic is Total, or part two of the track is taken from the secure transmission sent to Moscow on April 26th 1986 after the explosion at reactor 4. "The Reactor is gone. Panic is Total". What they saw at Chernobyl pushed the limits of human understanding and control.

Both were recorded using a single live pass of 2 Moog Mother-32 Semi Modulars, Moog DFAM, Behringer Model D, and Roland TR-626 drum machine.  After the live pass, I edited quite a bit and added 6 or 7 more layers of hand played Model D. This is a big departure for me as I have not used semi-modulars to this extent and am still learning.  Please be patient with me as I try to improve over the year.

Looking forward to hearing everyones music for 2020.

Ah! That's the stuff! Missed your sound man, tasty, tasty layers of synthesized awesomeness! I really dig that intro, it's got a bit of a B-52's feel to it (which, considering the theme, is extremely on point!) Welcome back!

Fantastic couple of tunes in here, welcome back! I love that modular sound you're incorporating into these heart

Welcome back!  Always dig your stuff.  Nice way to squeeze two tracks into one.  I've got lots to learn this year, too, so I feel you, but this sounds pretty great to me so far.

Yo welcome back! Was a bit worried there when I didn't see you for week 1. Great to hear your sound again, I'm looking forward to hearing more of it this year heart

I can totally see an army of robots breakdancing to this music...excellent!

for a second I thought you weren't doing it this year and I panicked.

WELCOME BACK

Cool track! very catchy.

Great intro to this song!

same here, glad you're back NWSPR

nice track(s)! part 1 had me really grooving and part 2 had me really intrigued.

Radioactive!! Great synths, good job on those. Those are some great ones! I worry about those poor souls exposed to radiation, but they can dance their troubles away I hope.
Glad you made it back!

Great to see you back here!
Nice modern appeoach on this 80s style beat smile

Great you made it this year too... and the first track delivers totally, I love the very early 80´s electronic leftfield pop and this has some of that vibe. Nice!

Dude this is cool as fuck!  I've been on a synthwave kick and this fits right in.  Looking forward to hearing more.

Well, at least you made it. That transition is pretty well done.

This is great! New Wave vibes A+

Thanks Gab, same here... really looking forward to 50+ tracks of GM this year!

Thanks! Trying to cover some new ground. Teach an old dog some new tricks with new gear that mimics old gear. One lesson learned, I need longer patch cables.

Thanks! same here.  I really enjoy your work and seeing what each week will reveal.  I am facing a large learning curb this year with some likely tedious tracks but that's what WB is for... working it out.  Already learning from other artists submissions from first two weeks.

Old robot technology.  First they dance. Then they break.  Thanks!

Thanks! I just zoned out and was flipping some toggle switches, turning knobs.  Looked at the clock and the deadline passed by several minutes.  Stupid way to start the year.  Looking forward to getting fresh weekly deliveries of OD! smile

Filter sweeps which I learned from my WeeklyBeat 2019 listening. A little late to the game but better late than never.

Surprisingly, some of the technicians that were drinking vodka on the job or drank vodka heavily as they were leaving the morning shift avoided immediate effect.  But certainly not most.  So, please stock lots of vodka in the event of impending nuclear meltdown.

Thanks!  Great to be back!  If they created beats after the 80s, I am not aware of it smile

Happy to be back and trying to cover new ground... at least on the gear side. Glad to see you're back as well!

Thanks!  For the ultimate in synthwave enjoyment, don't mis Gab Manette's tracks. And, you are in the cool as fuck category with your tracks.  Much enjoyed!

Thanks! It was a fun first attempt to figure out the semimodulars.  Hope to do a better, deeper dive in the upcoming weeks.

oh this is so fun (despite the serious subject matter)!

Another mega-hit. Nearly missed it. Very delicious  synth sounds.
