This Fragile Mask

By Tone Matrix on February 17, 2024 5:26 pm

I can't complain.  It took me 6 weeks before I hit a wall.  I run with this positive ball of energy for as long as I can and then it inexplicably disappears.  Though I've been having technical issues with Ableton it did manage to capture enough of a chunk to release this week.  I think knowing I need to reinstall and possibly update my OS (again) has stifled that free flowing happy feeling I had in the early weeks.  Mayhaps it's multiple migraines and lack of restful sleep.  In the meantime at least I can noodle about in the dark drenched in reverb. smile  Thank you for reading and listening each week.  heart

hope you get some rest & migraine relief soon

Very peaceful and meditative.  Sorry to hear technical issues are slowing down your flow and messing with your vibe.  It's always a pleasure to listen to you noodle around with your piano though.

May the ball of positive energy reappear and give you big hugs. This lonely candlelight piano captures a sensitive mood very well,  an expressive, gentle and beautiful song.

Sometimes those hiccups or barriers can lead to something different in a good way. This is a really lovely piano composition, makes me wanna keep my digital piano around (don’t have any space for it though). Great somber melody.

Throwing positive energy your way, I have had issues with ableton 11 as well, but no different than forgetting to hit save when dialing in a hardware patch. Thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless.

This is absolutely beautiful and moving. Sorry to hear you've been having technical and non-technical issues... If it serves as any comfort, this piece sounds lovely and warm and I hope that it felt as nice writing/composing it as it does for me to listen to it now. May future weeks bring fewer barriers and allow more of the fun stuff.

And when you need to, noodle away on that piano. We'll all benefit from it if it means we get more stuff like this ❤️

It happens. I feel like learning how to trudge through those moments is part of the WB experience. If it helps, I feel like you're doing that with some real grace here. Your track this week's got a coherent structure and a steady build to it, and it sounds beautifully contemplative. Your music's awesome. Keep up the great work! heart

I really like this track.  I think it develops quite nicely through out, solid melodic idea, really captures an emotional narrative... so pretty high quality noodling. And you know... sad boi vibes + piano + reverb = good stuff.  I mean Ludovico Einaudi has basically made a whole career out of that formula.

Some lovely progressions here intertwine nicely with the melody.  A beautiful piano tone as always.

And yep, tech issues suck.  Kind of why I love hardware so much also.  Turn it on and go.  My Ableton is a glorified tape machine half the time.  Haha.

i'm sorry you had such a rough week, but grateful we get to hear you working through it. that sounds selfish, but i just want you to know it's appreciated.
may the migraines lift, may the tools behave, and may music continue to carry us forward.

Take care! Technical difficulties are not fun at all (I was about to say are the worse, but migraine and big headache's are really the worse, or shitty interpersonal problems)

I always love your peaceful pianos. This is a lovely track.

Love you!

Sorry to hear you had a rough week and the ball of positive energy went away! This piece you created, like all of your work conveys so much emotion and thoughtful contemplative state. I think everyone here, myself included really appreciates you for all you create and share. Thank you for the music and sharing. Maybe hopefully sometimes when the energy changes it's for an ok reason in the end, to help make the the up energies even more grand and to share something, whatever it may be. I hope this week is better!

Ugh, gear problems blooooooowwwwww.  Fantastic work for a noodle though.  The production is amazing and it still sounds like a very well worked out composition.  Really great stuff.

Just beautiful, sad but also not a bummer to listen to, hopeful even.  I'm not sure if my dac/headphones were playing up or something but some of the harder played notes seemed to distort at the top and sounded wonderful

Beautiful image for the description. I love these noodles. I feel you with inspiration appearing and disappearing. There is a high that comes with the start of the WB year and then we tend to exhaust the energy a bit quickly. like getting excited at the start of a marathon and running like a rabbit for the first 2 kms and realizing there are 40 more to go.
Take it easy, love the process. I certainly love the tracks that you describe like noodles. They capture a melancholy and beautiful playing that transport the listener. There are heavy clouds, but there is also hope.

Agree, starting to run out of ideas, almost didn't make anything for this week, but then got something done last night and this morning.  This piece was still very enjoyable and emotional, I actually think it is a nice interlude into the next segment of weekly beats.

Solemn. Amazing progression. You got this.

If we ever need inspiration, we listen to other people's music. There's a lot of it.

Dudeeee, I so relate, especially with the migraines. That's the worst, somedays you're just down for the count and on the recovery days you're like "I don't want to do anything." And that sucks with Ableton, I ran into an issue years ago (2020) where I had to end up reinstalling my OS during a WB and that throws a serious wrench into your workflow.

Anyways, regardless of all the difficulties, this is a really beautiful piano progression so it sounds like things worked out smile

Also, relevant comic since I'm over here like "That's so me":

sorry for the delay but i just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your kind supportive words.
you all certainly make me feel comfortable sharing my noodles.  Def trying to ease up on the expectations i put on myself earlier in the year and just enjoying the process.  Especially enjoying listening to everyone's music.  I'm hearing so many different genres and different styles/approaches to making music.  It's inspiring and motivating hearing your tracks and how you all are getting thru this year.  Much love for the WB community heart  thank you so mucho

ps. that comic... is so me tongue

i was listening before reading and thought "this feels sad"

you don't have to be happy all the time!
