Head In The Clouds

By Tone Matrix on September 15, 2024 8:22 pm

I thought mayhaps I'd be venturing back into piano land this week but nope i'm still somewhere else.. space? smile  We had a crazy squall of a storm pass through here the other day.  I flung my phone at the window to get some sounds and ended up recording some of the closest angriest thunder I've ever experienced.  The strike was so close all I saw was light everywhere. yikes Another recording of crickets that I pitched in key (i think?).  Also why the plane sounds drunk as it flies byyyyyy maaaaan.  Also mouse clicks for even more ambiance.  Also cars driving by thru rain soaked streets make great ambient risers.

I had a much messier louder piano drenched in reverb sorta track planned early in the week but i ended up with this epiano thingy by accident instead.  I was having a down day thinking about how this time last year I was saying goodbye to my best buddy, beanie (kitty). One thought led to another and I had a space noodle that felt right and cathartic.  I'm ok now.  Hope you are well, thank you for stopping by and listening heart

The ambient sounds create a great mood and the noodle just fits right in there.  It feels a little lonely, a little contemplative, and feels like a perfect accompaniment to watching the world go by out your window or sitting in your back yard.

ok, this might just be my landing spot tonight.
your playing, combined with the ambient sounds you captured,
i am here now

thanks, buddy.
and beanie forever  heart

love the field recording backdrop to the noodlings. I hope your phone survived lol

I’m glad I read the backstory behind this and it feels like it just fits that mood so right.

Reflective, a little melancholy, and being gentle with oneself.

The ambient touches work great.

Made me slow down and close my eyes.
I enjoyed this.

Thank you.

The pitched crickets and thunders are in tune and the piano is warbling a little bit. a perfect match.

The ambience from the reverb is so delightful, the thunder you described sounds scary but the way you mixed it in sounds like pleasant thunder clouds rolling by in the distance as you watch from your window, love the space you created here.

Wow, such peaceful place, the ambience you recorded is lovely. Moment of calm in the day. Sounds like quite the storm, you took us there. Drunk planes, maaaaan!!

Beautiful. I love the subtle rain and thunder with the smooth epiano, really sounds like you're just jamming to the storm and the traffic and the aircraft and the crickets and... beautiful.

I was out of town all week and this was a great track to come back to while I clean up the mess back home lol

How did I miss this??? This is awesome!!! So mellow and chill, the electric piano here is suuuch a nice pairing with those ambient sounds.

Something about this one feels very intimate and relatable, like it is me sitting in a porch listening to the storm and the plane, and there is this life soundtrack playing for no particular reason beside it just fitting in with the moment and the mood. Really great work!

So good. You can really see yourself sitting at the window / on the porch just watching and listening to the weather

Oh man... this is awesome... I love all the field recordings, creates such an interesting space to inhabit.  Also the reverb on the epiano is wonderful.  That long tail just drifting off into the sounds of a storm... just beautiful.

Beautiful - love the gentle melodies and the ringing reverb tails. The thunder in the background is a nice juxtaposition - makes the whole mood more ambiguous, maybe cozier, maybe slightly tense or melancholy. Really good.
