Devotion

By Tom Foolery on May 28, 2026 11:43 pm

Description to be updated later. Had to do this in one take today, and something glitched in the recorder, so there's a skip in the intro. I hope you enjoy it warts and all though!

Inspired by a misheard Alex G lyric, and an incredible lyric from an Asha Jeffries song ("Your mouth on my mouth: devotion").
Guitar in CGDGDD tuning.

I leave my skin outside your house
place your mouth upon mouth
I will give my wings to you
make my blind to the truth

I would bleed into you
if you asked me to
I would bleed into you
if you asked me to

no word more sacred than your name
I will shoulder all your blame
stare directly at the sun
to see how bright you have become

I would bleed into you
if you asked me to
I would bleed into you
if you asked me to

I actually love the "Glitch" in the intro.

Cool song. there is an "Oasis Wonderwall" quality to the strumming. I like the reverbs on the recording, it gives a "dreamy, floaty" ambiance.

Nice melancholic vibes.

Lovelly shimmer to the guitar.

Makes me think of britpop like Longpigs etc.

Super floaty vibe.

Love the sound of the guitar.  It's huge and resonant.  Vocals sound great, too.

I leave my skin outside your house

hell of an opening line there!

feeling this. your voice & guitar work together so well to convey a depth of emotion. heart

Love how this tuning has those high droning notes! I've used DADAAD before, love the flavor of those paired high strings...it's like shorthand 12-string smile

Great chorus hook. Amazing imagery of self sacrifice and devotion, and that melody just makes it float away. Still stuck in my head.

Thank you very much djippy! I had not considered the Wonderwall similarities but now I cannot unhear it haha! Thank you for complementing the floaty ambiance! heart

Ooh I don't know Longpigs, I will have to check them out! I do quite enjoy this shimmery sound. Thanks for listening and leaving your kind words heart

Thank you for your very kind words. I am quietly pleased with that lyric, and flattered by your complement! It's always reassuring to hear - I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing with lyrics.
Thank you for listening heart

Again, very flattered that you enjoyed that lyric! heart
I agree, the 12-string detune sound is so lovely with those paired strings (something I played around with this week too). I will have to try DADAAD tuning sometime! It sounds interesting.
So many nice words here, I'm glad the imagery came through, thank you thank you! heart

Love the sound of your guitar as always. It shimmers along with your voice.  Your lyrics also always hit close especially on those catchy choruses.

Neat little Coldplay-esque chorus that tags the fourth at the peak of the little arc. I think it's a distinct and defining part of the song for me!

I had not noticed it before but you're right, there's a very Coldplay vibe to these choruses! Thanks for listening and I'm glad you enjoyed it! heart
