Porch Groove

Tried a beat with a drum loop sample that I sliced up. I don't often work with pre-recorded drum loops, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The beat is pretty simple, but I wanted to make it more interesting by changing the time signature every measure from 7/8 to 4/4. I added some additional layers of kick and percussion about halfway through the track to make it sound more full and hit a bit harder. I also wanted the bass to really shine in this one, and I really like the bass line I came up with.
I also had fun coming up with this chord progression, I think it fits the drums nicely. Part of me wanted to to some pretty wild stuff with the track and totally change the mood of it, but I found the groove enjoyable enough that I just wanted it to sit in that space. Sometimes the simple solution is the best one. I used the M8 to compose, the SP404 for sample chopping, and Logic for the piano, bass sound, and mastering.
