Porch Groove

Tried a beat with a drum loop sample that I sliced up. I don't often work with pre-recorded drum loops, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The beat is pretty simple, but I wanted to make it more interesting by changing the time signature every measure from 7/8 to 4/4. I added some additional layers of kick and percussion about halfway through the track to make it sound more full and hit a bit harder. I also wanted the bass to really shine in this one, and I really like the bass line I came up with.

I also had fun coming up with this chord progression, I think it fits the drums nicely. Part of me wanted to to some pretty wild stuff with the track and totally change the mood of it, but I found the groove enjoyable enough that I just wanted it to sit in that space. Sometimes the simple solution is the best one. I used the M8 to compose, the SP404 for sample chopping, and Logic for the piano, bass sound, and mastering.

This is like BoC meet Boombap. I love it. The chops are all there.

lovely mood with this one - laid back

You ever listen to Saltillo or the Album Leaf? Both have tracks reminiscent of this kind of… glitch hop meets absolute beauty. And a little bit of Mozez too, laid back red.

But this is insane. It’s so infectious, the vocal cuts are amazing, just obsessed.

The beat is a but simple but I think it totally works, and you make it pretty interesting throughout. I think you found a really cool groove with this one, totally chill vibes!

NOOOOOO DANGIT rookie mistake

Man, your chopping skills are on point. This is such a chill funky vibe. Amazing stuff.

Lovin' all the sample chops in the last few weeks, you are killin it with that 404.  I'd be interested in seeing, or reading about your general 404 workflow if you ever have the time and desire to share it.

Oof, such cool mood there. The beat slicing works very well, making accents in less expected places, nice work!

Those vocal slices in the second half are indeed quite BoC.

would hang out on this porch

When the kids won't get off your lawn and you hit them with one of these.

that bass SHINES for sure! Love the rhythm of the vocal chops. Solid track!

Nice choice of sample, that beat sounds perfect - both vintage and huge. This track is HIP. The bass is funky as hell and the interplay with the vocal sample is really well done. Great mixing and vibe in this track. I am totally vibing, whatever that might mean! smile

Makes me nostalgic for a life I didn’t actually experience. I’m seeing fireflies and fairy lights.
