Texture Study III: High Tide

By Suhpos on March 31, 2024 4:33 pm

This is starting to get hard. For the last few weeks I haven’t managed to put as much energy in as I would like, this is another one in that series. This week it was time to do another “texture study”. But I didn’t really feel like doing a pure texture piece, so i added some ukulele melody, but I guess it’s okay as I am the one who makes the rules anyways. I think that there’s also something interesting about the interaction, between melody and texture. Also the melody was pretty random and didn’t really have a strong theme so somehow it was kind of textural? The other sounds was a bowl with some wooden objects that i fiddled with. The more times i do this i find that actually there are technique to these things (pouring water, tearing paper, fiddling etc.), not that i have it, I guess it takes many years to become a good “fiddler”. This was four tracks of that, I copied it to two additional tracks and time-stretched them to get different pitches of the bowl. The third sound was a frame drum with some corks sliding and rolling i added delay to this to make it denser and make it more regular. I would like to have put more time and effort into this, but i think maybe it’s part of the journey.

I like that you played with all these toys! Good idea to combine with the ukulele lines. It highlights the textures and the passage of time. Meanwhile the textures make me grab onto the ukulele melody because it's what feels like home!

Sounds really good and i feel better for having heard it.

This is effective and well done!
