In Memory of a Stranger

Time is really passing so fast...

This is my second attempt at this challenge. I'm not sure my head is completely in it, but maybe that is part of the point. Just trusting the process even when you don't feel like it, and then sometimes beautiful things happen, especially on the moments you felt you weren't struck by inspiration. What a gift!
So excited to hear the music that you have all been making!

The other day, a dead pidgeon was laying in front of my hallway door, this music is dedicated to it.

Process log:
This piece of music started with an experiment popping bubblewrap. A good portion (of the few things) that i've done on the computer this year i have been using short delays to make exciters, karrplus strong synthesis, i think they call it. I had 8 tracks of bubblewrap textures with different pitches. I really love the way you can turn a texture tonal and all the places in between. the texture sounds a little bit harsh i think recording these tiny clicky kind of sounds is really difficult. The "melody" was made with a reed from an accordeon blown directly which gives you a lot of control of the timbre. i did  just a few recordings, then recycled it with timestretching, pitchshifting and so on. theres a bass sound from another accordeon reed but plucked.

The bubble wrap is a great texture.  I love found sounds like that.  Cool that other sounds were done with accordion reeds.  I like the mood this creates.

Wow! So nice to hear your work again! I think you have a unique way of working with sound and the workflow is partly what leads to producing such interesting music. And cool that when it's such an original workflow, the resulting mix is never really "wrong" since it's all about what you can hear while making it, a lot like live improvisation, but maybe with more thoughtfulness.

Awesome melody on the reed by the end! It changed my impression of the track from a requiem type story to a mystical rebirth thing!

So glad you are back!

1st - i was very happy to see yr name with a new recording
2nd - wow, this gave me big feelings. when the low frequencies swelled i was floating
3rd - i would love to sing over this for one of my week's this year if you'd be open to that (of course ok if you'd prefer not)

thank you for making it, here's to a brighter year... heart

Whoa this is so cool. The bubble wrap gives me crackling fire vibes. I’m inviting others to practice healthy beats this year. Skip a week if you need, get back on the horse. We need more of this from YOU! Looking forward to it, Excellent first week

Thank you Horatiu! I was also comparing with improvisation a little bit while making this. For me i think it’s really healthy to work in this way, as i don’t have a long memory when improvising so things tend to just be from moment to moment, this forces me to work more thoughtfully as you said. “from a requiem type story to a mystical rebirth thing”, haha very poetic comment I’m not sure exactly what it means but i will keep thinking about it, thank you.

Hey, thank you! I’m glad you felt something from it. And by all means, if you can hear a song in there go for it, would be my honor. If you want i can send you the stems (or individual tracks). Let me know would love to hear it! Gonna be a good year, good to be back!

Definitely will think about how to do this in a healthy way, would be very proud of myself if i managed to stay in it to the end. I’m not sure if skipping is the best strategy for me, i think I stopped completely last time because i started skipping. But maybe now that you’ve said that it would feel like less of a failure. Thanks!

Favorited, this is terrific! Bubble wrap and accordion reeds, wow!!!!
Thank you for making such a beautiful tribute. RIP lil' pidge. We didn't know you, but we love you.

Thank you for listening!

love the bubblewrap textures and the harmonies from the main pad.  The outro is very cinematic too.
