kinetic life W23

By SQF on June 9, 2024 3:48 pm

It was one of those weeks where I really had to channel my can-do-attitude of previous weeks.

I started with 2 dead end songs and decided to start a new one friday night. I decided to hook back up to external gear which I hadn't done in quite a while and ended up finding some new direction with the sub 37.

There's something about being able to noodle on an actual piano keyboard, though I'm far from a keys player, inspires different ideas than programming notes on the m8.

This song is a mix of sub 37 and m8 sounds along with some tape echo from the strymon volante that always makes the sub 37 sound sooo much better than it already does.

Maybe this weeks lesson is it's okay to give up on a song that just isn't working, maybe I'll revisit those ideas in the backlog.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy week 23!

I like how there's a semi-dark and mysterious vibe to this.  I could see it tracking an 80's movie where the detective goes on the prowl through a dark cityscape late at night.

It certainly is interesting how using some different equipment/interfaces can inspire different ideas.  It probably is good to switch it up once in a while.

love the staccato bass notes. really cool and playful track!
and yeah... i say let the ideas go, if they love you they will return  smile

love the sub37, always enamored with it's sleek look.  The bass and main synth leads sound excellent.  Love the different gritty leads that get introduced as well.  Well done!

I've listened to this a few times already and it I gotta say, I absolutely love it!
Great job!!! Super dark, moody and also funky as hell.
Just so many good little pieces and ear candy all around.
Also, I 100% hear you with the keyboard. I'm also quite far from being any kind of keyboard player, but it's definitely the instrument I'm most comfortable making melodies and messing around with. It allows me to explore WAAAAY different types of melodies than what I would make straight on the M8.
Anyways, looking forward to more of this kind of stuff from you!

I just love the sound of the sub37. I resisted getting a moog because I was convinced the fandom was BS but this was a deal I couldn't pass up and now I'm a believer. Also eyeing that behrinnger model 15/grandmother clone.

Wow jegasus, you've made my day with this comment, thank you so much!
yeah there's just a jamability with a keyboard that you can't get on the m8 but maybe I'll get better at hearing these things in my head and reproducing on the m8.

Sisyphos needed a friend to tell him hey - you don't have to keep pushing that thing up a hill - you can do something else bud smile

strong solo playing over the loops, really enjoying how expressive it is. nice track!

I'm definitely curious what you did cook up besides this. Kinetic as this is, there isn't a huge sense of kinetic energy in here.

Really groovy opening hook, fun melody that layers really nicely with kind of bell like synth voice that comes in around 0:52
