drifting - W11

I just can't seem to break away from the digitakt 2 lately!
All guitar sounds are from the laney supergrace pedal aka the smashing pumpkins pedal.
I did a mix of direct out with onboard reverb and through my board. Really digging it.

The biggest thing I've learned from making music is the best sound design happens in the mix.
Guitar tone that sounds fantastic on its own, does not translate to how it sounds in the mix.
Being able to tweak sounds where they will live yields the best results.

As far as song structure, it felt like enough sections with enough variation to keep it interesting.
I'm always tempted to take a song like this and force traditional song structure upon it.
Why? I don't know. Maybe I feel like following some kind of rule will take it to it's fullest potential.
The same false logic that is behind spending more time will make it better.

I will resist again and let it live as it was created, under the constraints it was created.
That is be beauty of weekly beats.

our brains can be such little task masters eh?

resist smile

The guitar does sound great here.  It personally took me way too long to learn you can't just take a cool sound and plop it down without considering how it fits in the mix.  If it sounds cool on its own it should sound cool in the song, right???  smile  I like how the sort of jazzy keys near the end contrast with the guitar, too.

That mixing / sound design tip definitely rings true - I've lost track of how many times this year I've had to tweak parts I originally loved because they couldn't cut through or obstructed something else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dig this track, the mix feels good to me!

This guitar is so great. I love the contrasting tones of all the instruments and the little bleeps in the outro are awesome too.

Oh yais loving that sinister guitar sound and how that 2nd melody comes in over top. Oooh rad fluty guitar solo! \m/ and love when the bass kicks back in.  Excellent head nodder of a track!

Wow the vibe of this track! I listened to it twice from start to end. There is something in those guitars that is pure magic. There is some waiting, a melancholy, maybe acceptance especially from 2:41. The flute kicked me into a parallel dimension. It was wonderful. Favoriting this one.

Great determined groove, and fine fuzz guitar! Very engaging. The dry mix adds to the in-our-faces quality--very nice!

FLUTE!! Stop making me feel like I need a digitakt ii!! Great track. The beauty of weeklybeats indeed!!

This track has such a unique sound palette and a cool groove, I really dig it!

this one sounds straight out of a grungy film about 20 somethings taking drugs and having messy relationships in the london estates

I really enjoyed the development o the tune! nice choice of sounds and groove

Guitar sounds so good on this, so true about the mix completely changing the sound, always struggle with that when recording hardware synths.  Some really nice sounds to complement the guitar and drums, just noticed the bass, it is so smooth.

super cool! nice sections with slight variation, it's a chill vibe throughout but there's a lot of evolution that keeps it fresh.

there's a reason cliches are cliches. also, all rules were made to be broken (see what I mean about cliches?)

Bravo. So many ideas worked out.  I really liked the idea of introducing a flute in here. From 2:10 on the song gets the final direction together with the sweet synth and the heavy guitar riffs. Well done.

That guitar is killer and really elevates an already spectacular track. Great work.

I love all how all of the different parts come together and the laid back, downtempo flavour. It is a good mix, has so much colour.

Loving this guitar gang arc.
Yea, mixing guitars is quite satisfying, it knows where it needs to be.
