conjoined - W4

By SQF on January 25, 2026 9:02 pm

This is a project with two related but inseparable ideas.
I thought about splitting off the second idea into a week 5 but I also want to move on and get started on next weeks song.
So, I push them both out to sea, tied together with some hi-hats and bass, for your listening enjoyment.

Mostly m8 with some perfourmer and s-1 bits sprinkled in.

I'll have more time this week to listen, comment and respond, looking forward to hearing everyones submissions, as always!

That clanging percussion is a really cool touch. Awesome stuff!

These perc samples are great. I love the dreamy lofi vibe.

There does seem to be two distinct parts, but they feel spiritually bonded and I think they belong together.  Both parts are quite nice, and keeping them conjoined was the right choice.

Really lovely sound @SQF dreamy + nasty chords. Great track!

Hell yes. Filthy grungy industrial with glimmers of hope.
Amazing.

You've managed some science by turning two halves of a song into a whole. No more simple loops for the entire song, now you have B sections.

ooof! !@#$ what a groove right from the start! \m/ the metallic percussion with the gritty synth is so thick! Then those high leads kick in and sparkle atop with that sequenced arp.  love how it transitions right back into the previous section too. those drum fills around 2:40ish are extra sweet.  the leads in this are grimy good! this is an awesome track SQF! well done!

Loving all the PERfourMER stuff... that synth just has such a lovely warm tone to it.  Super unique too, and just perfectly suited to the harmonies you used in this track, like the music I would expect Lobo to be listening to if he was chillin' on a beach resort planet with Howard the Duck... like it just has an iron age comic sci-fi energy to it... so cool.

solid open with fun perc
really love how the heavy bassline opens up
contemplative melody is unexpected but welcome
and back to that fat, warm chorus heart

really really great composition

Ahhhhhh that thick lead bass is so delicious and delightfully melodic. This is so fantastically tight, the percussion is soooo on point and the mix breathes. Really pristine.

I don't hear two ideas as much as one really excellent song entering into a transition bridge for the next track. Like it almost feels like a really clever dj mix. Worth a follow up IMHO!

This is quite a fantastic track. I like the buildup of all layers while keeping it coherent and clear. The distorted line has a dark sound, close to NIN and is nicely contrasted with the clean bells. I'm enjoying this trip.

wth, dude?! this is so killer. i dig the coda, they sit nicely together.
i also just wanted to say how great your mixes are sounding and how much i can tell you've been working on that and also the narrative of your tunes. gimme more, SQF!  big_smile

yes this is the way to go, sometimes the mixes of idea are equally inspiring. like the lead. i also like that the drums are lofi.

Did you know SQF actually stands for SQuelching Filter? (am I going to do this every week??)

This one feels quite dense, not in a bad way
The initial drum loop is fun and interesting, the oppressive bass comes in but then

and it becomes badass when the bass pad comes back. head nodding along for sure.

Really funky on the last part too, that bassline is killer.

Very grimey and dark synth in that A part, the wideness and texture of it sounds awesome on headphones.
Love the oscillation between the bright and dark chords in the B section.
The ending feels like such a cliffhanger. How will our heroes survive next week? Tune in to find out!

Insta dig!

I'm really enjoying your sound pallets each week.

oooh love that thick lead. This rocks me right. Wanna blast it.

enjoyed this one a lot

epic

Really nasty synth lead. I love that the main hook has that really spicy note that you linger on for a moment before resolving back to the tonic. Ending section is dope.
