black wren W45

By SQF on November 10, 2024 5:52 pm

Started this one with an oddly timed drum loop sample. It's got a ride cymbal hit in it that kind of towers in the mix at times, so much so that I almost abandoned it, but alas, I pressed on.

It is week 45 and we can't be too sacred about our choices.

I matched the drum loop with a slow lumbering bass line and some more oddly timed synth lines.

Then around 1:15 I come in with some nice heavily distorted m8 hypersynth in what I'd call the prechorus.

I like how the chorus came out but my favorite might be the bridge around 2:45-3:20.

Hope you enjoy!
Cheers to week 45!

God I love this. That distorted hypersynth is thick and nasty in the best ways possible. It all just gels so well with that drum beat. Nicely done.

I'll double on that bridge, just the right amount of energy for the tempo it's in.

This sounds epic and huge.  I'm picturing a giant black wren towering over me and it's oddly not terrifying but elating.

Tracks haunted. I love it!

Oh yeah! The bridge, yes, but especially when the harmony part kicks in! Really nice mix of chill tempo but intense instrumentation too. Awesome work!

Love that lumbering feel of the bass and drums together.  Ooof but when that epic synth comes in with it's wavy synth_friends singing backing up hail yais!  Those bendy portamento sweeps sound so good as each phrase begins.  Excellent!

good lord, did you have to get special permission to get that nasty on WB?? this rules

Oh god DAMN. Was really loving the lumbering rhythm and how the different lines were playing with each other, and then those FILTHY lead lines came in at 1:14. That stuttering kick pattern held everything together absolutely great, was like a touchstone for the entire track as the other parts grew and fell away around it. Slow, intentional and INTENSE. Great track.

Thanks! It all worked out, I'm stoked with it coming back a week later to listen.

Thanks! Proof that shit you worry about in a song isn't worth worrying about. That steady beat was the glue.

Absolutely loving that hypersynth organ. The build towards the end is great - gosh the M8 distortion is delicious, isn't it? Really enjoyed the harmonizing towards the end in the play-out, and that thick bass throughout really carried the track. Awesome song.

Duuuude thanks! I’m stoked on the m8 distortion, if you didn’t know any better you’d think it was a guitar. Can’t believe what’s possible in that little box

Really immediately pulled in by the 3 against 2 rhythm, feels great here. The lower synth melodies have such a satisfying growl to them, as does the bass. Killer vibes!
