Be The One W9

By SQF on February 29, 2024 4:31 pm

A departure from my normal sounds that as user prophisee said, could easily be identified in a police lineup.

This is a 100% sample chopped song put together for a beat contest.
The artist that hosted the contest https://soundcloud.com/bad-snacks she has a pretty active discord
And the artist that supplied the samples https://soundcloud.com/butter-knife-888339026

This was my first time putting together a track from a limited set of samples. It was a fun challenge, I learned a lot. I like the track but it wasn't enough to topple some of the amazing entries! Next time!

Those back-vocals together with the guitar, reminded me of Cornelius! Great vibe! Thanks for sharing.

OMG I accidentally clicked 'Submit comment' with nothing in the text box πŸ˜‚

I think this is a super cool track. Great job with all of the sample chopping, it all works so well together!

AW3SOME!!! Love this vibe, you did a great job arranging all these sounds. It gives me Melody's Echo Chamber mixed with BoC, really great!!

This sounds amazing - chill but warm, relaxed and groovy. It sounds like the late 60s/early 70s but in the best way possible.

yeaaaaaaahhhhhhh

Definitely got a head nod, this one

Mega track! heart

Ohhhhh nice.  I love the limitations of a sample comp :-)   This is a great lil head nodder.  (I think JWH above shows the correct dance moves!)

I really like the crunchy kick.

Those Vocal samples are neat.

I like the orchestration you did, not too busy, smooth (ish) groove.

For sure, the artist who provided the samples is def giving off 70's vibes.

Thank you! I'm happy with how it turned out though I did not come close to winning, there were some bangers submitted!

Cool composition! I came to compliment the vocals but if they're all samples I guess the focus should be on the composition - I like the evolution of the layers. Feels like a nice zone-out vaguely danceable number. I like the approach for the piano. Feels groovy but minimal. If I made this I would try to shred the shit out of the piano lines but it would probably lose this chill feeling. Kudos and thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks! Yeah, I wish the original song/stems I started with were posted publicly somewhere. You can shred on the piano so I can understand you wanting to jump in. "Coach put me in, I GOT THIS"

I love the pace you have chosen and the synths. also how you blended and arranged the different voices is super cool! it reminds me a bit of AIR

Soothing and really enjoyable to listen to. The transitions between vocals feel very natural and th whole track flows well, like a calm car ride on a sunny day.

nice arrangement and mix! did you learn from the winners as well? i bet that is interesting to see what others do with the same material too. I like all the parts here, lots of vocals adds a lot of texture. nice work here!

it certainly sounds like W9 IS the one! heart

Ohh! I'm not real familiar with AIR, will check them out. Thanks!

If you're curious, this was the winner. https://soundcloud.com/user-289636918/tu-pourrais-etre-le-seul-2 Wow, mind blown. A different direction but just impressive how much mileage they got out of the samples.

lol that is sick thanks for sharing. I'm amazed at how different you can make too cool songs from the same source material. Fun project and you should be proud of your results.

Hahahaha I meant that as a compliment though it’s a great sound!!!

Super clean and crisp. The vocal samples are vibey. The bass is very uplifting. Like how it wanders from low to high. Chords dropping hits hard.

Struggling to find a cc tbh. I really like it.

Great track.  Great to chill to.  Well done
