Carried Momentum (WB30)

By spry on July 31, 2022 8:02 pm

The title reflects the writing process of this song where I didn't do too much thinking and let the momentum carry me through.

Kinda just threw some patterns together in ableton and played some drone along with it this week. I played on the harmonium half paying attention and once it was together it needed something to bring it together so I improved a take on the ocarina. A little bit of copy pasting to clean up the finger cymbals and ocarina parts, some reverb, compressors and a bit of delay, some panning and a touch of saturation to bring it together! Total work time about 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon.

i dunno where i come up with this, but it feels ‘Celtic’, like bagpipes and a subtle drummer marching across meadows and green hills, so dreamily evocative heart

This feels quite adventurous with this progression. I'd say it feels more South-American personally.

this sounds very professional and has a enigmatic moody vibe to it. your workflow seems to work.

Always awesome to hear an ocarina tune! This turned out beautifully.

Flows like a river. I'm carried along by it, too.

Celtic or South American is a pretty big spread LOL I think thats probably a good thing! I've been threading the line between minor and major and playing with recorded tones lately and that seems to cross a lot of boarders. Drummer marching over hills could be anywhere big_smile

That's a compliment I'll take working on a 12 year old computer lol! One of the primary benefits to WB for me is the chance to iterate the process and improve as time goes on big_smile

I'm getting the hang of this! I'm finding the real trick is planning your song key carefully. The ocarina is in C major and this track is in A minor with some nods to major :-|
