Wasteland Livin'

By Sodabelly on April 25, 2024 6:45 am

I busted out the guitar and wrote some lyrics for the first time in a long, long while. It's wordy but turned out pretty nice I think. I was having some lag issues and was disappointed in my vocals when I wasn't playing guitar at the same time, so I recorded them live together. Then I added some harmonies, strings and the dulcimer thing. I wish the vocals weren't so iffy, but I haven't sang anything in a looong time except singing along to The Pixies and The Replacements in my car. tongue

Regarding the lyrics, I've been watching the Fallout tv show lately and thinking about the wasteland a lot. Is it possible to find romance in that world? And what does it look like? I'm about halfway through the show and it's pretty enjoyable. Visually, it's amazing.

Enjoy!

well this is delightful

The vocals sound great, as does the guitar.  The little touches of strings are a nice addition as well.

Beautiful laid back song.

Such a lush, relaxing song. heart Love it.

Beautiful! Is that a horn at the chorus? Whatever it is, works really really well! Great job

"Singin' in the river and the endless sun
If we can be happy, why can't everyone"

just beautiful
heart

Beautiful and calming song.  Some really awesome lyrics too.  Caught me with the first line immediately.  Solace in the ruins is another smile  Excellent work!

I really love the chorus in this song, lyrically it flows very nicely, and is very singable.  Also the post chorus is lovely... the violin/fiddle is a nice touch as are the plucky sounds... which... what is that, sounds like pizzicato violins, but a really interesting sounding guitar/banjo/??? maybe... at any rate is fits so nicely.  (* ^◇^)~

Oof so lovely. Around 1:12 when with the piano, strings, dulcimer all come in is just too beautiful and delicately arranged. This already would have been great as just a guitar/vocal track but the added instrumentation is too good.

WOW. This is an epic lovely track. I felt touched and connected to it immediately. Love it.

Favoriting this one. The guitar playing, the singing, the lyrics. This is beautiful. And vocal harmonies too! Wonderful! Thank you!

That section around 1:15 with the violin gave me goosebumps. I love how organic this sounds. Great singing too!

Very nice to come across gems like this every once in a great while. Beautiful song. You'd have made John Prine proud. The tone of the guitar is so natural. Your voice fits like a glove. Definitely a song to sing along with. Doing the vocals separately would not have been the same as you noted. Just so Earthy, and a great love song. Incredibly good work. Keep the guitar out!

This is really nice, I remember when somersaults were fun, when we would just play before it got too dark.

There's a dulcimer in one channel, and some kind of pluck or piano with reverb mirroring it in the other. Thank you very  much!

Thanks! I'm so happy to hear you like the instrumental passage smile

Thank you! I will try to keep the guitar handy and do some more with it this year.

Thanks! I remember that too...I'm going to make an effort to mess around like that this summer, even though my aging body will probably hate me for it tongue
