Half-Baked

By Sodabelly on March 17, 2024 6:08 pm

I had an ambitious project in mind this week and only got about 50% of the way there. Was really looking forward to trying something upbeat and with vocals and didn't even get close to the vocals part. Oh well, enjoy!

I could see vocals working with this, but it's still a rollicking good time as is.  I really like the repeating motif that first pops up around seven seconds in.

selfishly i'm glad you didn't get to the vocals cuz i needed something instrumental to motivate me while wrapping up work today (lyrics can sometimes distract me too much when i'm crunching) and this was perfect. think i looped it about 5 or 6 times!
i like how you have the guitars mixed in there  big_smile

Definitely a prominent plectrum in the mix. Hope to hear the missing 50% too some day.

Thanks guys! Sadly this isn’t just the first time putting guitar in WB this year, it’s the first time I’ve gotten my guitar out at all 😞 hope to do more!

The bassline is suhweet and gets it groovin right away but when the rhythm guitar comes in it gets even catchier.  The movement on the bassline sounds so good too.  Very upbeat and much needed, thank you

Can relate.  This is a jam though... great groove. ヾ(^ ^ゞ

What I do in cases like this is I leave the unfinished track for another week and do something quicker instead. Those tracks that take longer are sometimes the most worth it. And sometimes they're just an uphill battle that you can't win. ...not saying "Half-Baked" is that! In fact, it's good enough that I really hope you'll get to make it into a full song. Then "Half-Baked" can still be an interlude on the album or something, it sounds really good. I'm getting Gravenhurst vibes from this.

The start reminded me of 80s music, maybe some gothic vibe, but then it went somewhere else. I am digging this groove and the guitar riff especialy.

I'm not familiar with Gravenhurst but I'll check them out immediately! I initially wanted to go for more of a punk vibe but ended up completely different, I would like to return to it someday and do the vocals. Who knows!

Thanks! Yes I'm a big fan of that era of music so I think the sound just came out naturally.
