Red Giant

By Saguaro Gigante on April 14, 2024 11:45 pm

Sat down with a few hours to write and record today and this is what I was able to come up with. I may try to plan something out next week, but I really like these short writing sessions because there's not really time to worry about getting perfect takes or finding the right part to follow the previous one. Because there's so little time to get something finished I feel like it encourages me to try things and just play around. It's actually a lot of fun just sticking random parts together or going from one idea to the next without knowing if the transition made sense or not until I go back to listen to what I have so far. I really like how this one turned out!

Bass is nice and gnarly!

Good stuff man.

Definitely feels like a break through moment, the sound of this track is really unique and comes together in a cool way. A really nice blend of your influences. That beginning reminds me a lot of McBaise too, haha. I really appreciate psychedelic tones.

While I loved it all, I think 1:36 stood out to me as a pretty dope modal change up.

Loved at 3:40 when the harmonized solo guitar came in. Really strong melodic solo bits in here. Tasty jam, cool to hear that it came together so fluidly. Your "settle for imperfect takes" quality is roughly equivalent to my "it took me 20 takes to get this part right".

Great tune! Sounds great for imperfect takes! I loved how happy this song is and then Birth of a Universe came on after and it was just such a drastic change lol

Wow! this one goes to a couple different places. Beautiful.

This sounds AWESOME!!! Yes, more of these on-the-fly sessions, because this came out VERY nicely.

Love how the chord progression has a push and pull sorta feel to it with the guitars and bass going back and forth.  Drums sound great in the mix with the guitars.  Anthemic sound with the lead guitar and love those crunchy tones.  Makes me wanna air guitar along smile

Thanks! The beginning sounding like McBaise was a cool accident. I had layered some guitars together and when I played it back I realized it kind of had that sound. I was hoping you would notice! And yeah I was really happy with that 1:36 riff. Was kinda just trying to be rhythmic with some open strings and that melody found it's way out.

Thanks! I want to experiment with more harmony parts this year.

Yeah the way that tracks flow in reverse leads to some unexpected sound change ups! I'm glad you liked it!

Thank you! I think I've been experimenting more with trying to vary the dynamics by allowing the main role to switch a bit between the bass and guitar at different points throughout the track. I don't think it was intentional to do that, but I have been finding that I think my ear likes hearing the melody move into the lower register every once in a while.
