Midnight Cirrus

By Saguaro Gigante on April 24, 2022 11:52 pm

Wasn't sure I was going to make something this week; at least not anything I would be into. Wasn't particularly stoked with anything I had for most of the week but I ended up going with a few ideas that I had at the beginning and just kept fleshing them out and now overall I'm pretty happy with what I have. I'm glad I stuck with this idea and saw it through. I tried some different types of chord progressions that I don't normally use so that was fun. Not much time for polishing the leads, mix or the transitions for that matter but I can live with it!

Love the intro. The delay really adds nicely to the rhythm of it. The floaty mid section is cool too. And the outro. So, I guess all of it? Nice. I know you said not much time for mix, but I'll add one piece of feedback: Feed that snare into a gigantic reverb to make it really explode. GJ! Way to stick with it on a week you were feeling uninspired.

That transition at 1:31 is effective and nice, kind of a nice idea to store away for whenever I need to take a pause before a new section. 2:21 is probably my favorite section out of this tune, really nice moody chord progression where some chords feel hopeful, then sad, then hopeful again, and then inquisitive haha. There's a lot of great ambiance built up in this track with that effects-laden guitar tone. Now the more I listen to 3:12 onwards it's my favorite vibe, lol. Nice explosion of metal again right before wrapping it all up.

This flew over me like a light breeze unaware of it's presence until you stop to feel

Subtle and nicely done

These guitars hit me so good.

This legit makes me wanna bring out my guitar & amp and jam. I'm feeling that chord progression. Wow, that metal at the end. I really enjoyed the track!

Thought this was Midnight Circus but now I need to write a song about a Midnight Circus.

This was so delightful, even sensual.  This feels very Western to me somehow.  Love the echoey guitar tone at 3:10

The guitar sounds so good.  It sits so nicely in the mix with the drums too.  Love the chord progression as well especially around 2:30.  The heavy finish very much appreciated.  Nice work!

beautiful guitar tones!

Thanks! Glad you liked the tune. I will try that reverb trick next time. In general I will be paying more attention to using things like velocity and the mixing console in Logic to make the MIDI drums sound a bit more lifelike.

Thanks! Glad you liked the transition. Was sort of unsure what to do there, but then I stumbled on that silence and pickup notes idea. I’ve not used that before but I think it works well. Glad you liked the vibes at the end, that was my favorite part too I think.

Thank you! Such a nice comment! Thanks for listening. I was definitely trying to give this one an airy vibe.

It totally looks like Midnight Circus haha. That’s cool that you got a Western vibe from it. I was definitely imagining a moonlit desert night at the end there. Maybe I should call it Sensual Western Breeze: The Midnight Circus. Glad you dug the echoey sound, I’m a huge fan of delays on guitars. Thanks for checking it out!

Thank you! I’m glad you thought the drums and guitars sounded balanced. I’ve been concerned about getting that right lately.
