Into the Gloom

This one is pretty rough! But it was the best I could do with the time I had today. I had meant to work on something throughout the week this time, but that didn't really work out. I haven't been much in the mood to compose music lately. Not sure why. I have been playing my instruments and practicing music so I'm still playing a lot. I just haven't seemed to have had the drive to create anything original lately. Or maybe it's that I've been prioritizing other things. In any case, I have been thinking a lot about improvisation lately in the context of playing solos, but I thought I would try taking an improvisational approach to composition. This track started with an improvised guitar track that laid out the structure of the tune. From there I added another lead and rhythm guitar track as well as bass. There was a few spots where I tried to get my bearings before recording, but everything for better or worse was recorded in the moment. I also tried to add some drums by using my computer keyboard as a controller and then quantizing it afterwards to get it to line up better. There were some cool spots but it was hard to get things to line up so I made some patterns to use in certain spots. Maybe I'll figure out how to make more real time drums better in the future. Might be time to get some kind of real external midi controller like a keyboard or finger drum pad.

I fucking *love* the tension on those opening notes. It's also super sick hearing your exploration into this kind of music too because I think this maybe be one of the slower, broodier tunes you've written? That tension at 4:10 is also awesome, going right into that slow down too is exactly the kind of shit I'm into. Sooooo evil. Did the Kayo Dot concert rub off on you? lol.

Ooof those opening notes indeed. Such a heavy feel throughout as it goes from the fast paced kicks to the smashing cymbal sections.  Nice work!

Wow, I need to echo Viridian on the broodiness here. Really love the sound of this, and the way the guitars play off of each other.

Cool.
