Disorientation

By Saguaro Gigante on January 11, 2026 11:46 pm

Wasn't expecting to have to speedrun a track so early in the year, but it was quite a busy week and then I had family over all weekend and almost forgot that today I had to make a track! Wasn't sure what to do with this one but experimented with layering rhythmic elements on top of each other.

Since I wasn't going to have something I could sink a lot of time into, I tried to use this week's submission to experiment more with odd meter grooves. I used to listen to quite a lot of music that had odd meters but I don't seem to really write music like that. Or at least I never made much of an attempt to. In addition to other goals of mine for this year, experimenting with new rhythms is one that I have. This track is in 11/8 for the most part, but I was trying to feel it like a phrase of two bars in 2/4 followed by short bar. There was a section where I went to a 2/4 feel and then back to the 11/8 groove. Some of the transitions are a bit rough but after listening back to it a couple times after submitting it, I think I've learned a couple things I use for future attempts.

Woot, speedtrash week 2 club! I was busy too, haha.
I fuck with the goofiness of this one because it still grooves. It's the kind of experimental music I'd go out of my way to listen to because it's hard to find something that sounds like this. It's surprising tasteful too and doesn't sound that random, the way the horns are layered in sounds legit. Pretty cool for being last minute.

Bass is right!

This does groove. Weird as hell at times in a way I’m jealous of.

ooh loving the weird time signature, loving the bass
cool experiment, nice job making this groove as well as it does

Feeling that sweet groove with the drums.  Those filtered percussive elements that come in are extra nice!  love the thickness of the kick pumping through.

It's wild that the track feels so silly and loose, but if I listen closely everything is tight and controlled. Solid groove, and I love that bass.

Glad you liked it! I definitely tried to do something different with it.

Thank you! I had fun programming that virtual upright bass.

Thank you! Yeah I did my best to program the bass and drums in a way that made them sound cohesive.

super fun listen, disorienting but also very groovy at the same time. i look forward to checking out more of your tunes this year!

Playful and fun. Some of the sounds are very evocative of the early internet. Love it

These drums are great! I like how the whole song has a punchy kick to it as well
