a nocturne in C-major

···

I've never seen the northern lights before, and it wasn't due to lack of trying. It seemed like even in places where they're a common occurrence, and even at times of reported high activity I was never able to catch them. Until now. On Monday solar activity was so intense that northern lights reached where I live, and were so bright I could literally walk to a nearby open spot and take pictures.

This wasn't planned and wasn't forced. And so neither was this little meditation. Recorded in one take. The sound is Pianoteq played with the Osmose 61. No AI used in any part of the process. For this year every cover art is a photo I took.

What a pretty track. I like the playing and the mellow sound, which seems to resonate in the crystal cold air (though i was primed by the description).

This is beautiful. Had a nice quiet moment with this, my morning coffee and my sleepy old cat. Delightful.

Beautiful playing, and really impressive that this was recorded in one take smile

It feels like a meditation. It's genuine, calm, quiet, slow and beautiful.

I wish I could write better comment.

This has some serious jarrett/brand vibes, and makes me sorry to never have learned keyboard. Love it.

Well this is just lovely.  Very well placed reverb, and such well motivated musical wonderings... just a delightfully peaceful journey to follow you on. I love the slight shifts in harmonic color through out.  Great work.

What a pleasant little meditation. Totally made my morning

I enjoyed this moment. The piano was very very beautiful. Thank you.

such a calming piano sound and really enjoy how certain notes sparkled out as if they were the northern lights in the sky. well done moment captured and beautiful track!

Wow so nice and calm, I enjoyed every moment heart heart

wow, this is absolutely serene heart the way the piano notes seem to hang around in that reverb... it's beautiful.

really lovely photo too, glad you finally got to see them for real heart

Very relaxing. Beautiful.

Lovely, I could relax to this for days. Great playing. So cool you saw the northern lights! This goes well with that. They were visible here in Washington state last year too, didn't see them though, but some great pictures.

This is a really nice one RPLKTR! Very pretty. The playing and composition feel right to me.

Soft and calm, such a beautiful piece you have created.

Stunningly beautiful. That piano goes *deep* (pianoteq rocks!). no notes, just envy lol.

Also envious of your photos. I haven't seen the northern lights in years - well, last year, we almost got a taste - but the real thing has been quite some time. Can barely see the stars here now, whereas even five years ago that wasn't the case. Really beautiful. Very much enjoying your photography alongside your music.

Holy Moly!! It's sooo beautiful!! 💛

Genuinely stunning and gorgeous composition. Felt like you were telling a fluid story with the music.

rest here now - i feel like i'm standing there with you staring at that magic
that photo!
thank you for this - it's just beautiful heart

Some sixteen years back I used to run a website with daily piano improvisations and I kept some tricks from that time.

I see nothing wrong with your comment as is!

Brand as in Dollar Brand, i.e. Abdullah Ibrahim? I don't think I ever consciously listened to any of his work. I need to fix that!

Thank you for the careful listen!

I hunted auroras for 15+ years. Some of those attempts cost a lot of effort and then nothing. And this time around I just got a notification from a physicist friend, immediately got up and literally just walked around my area. Hopefully you can do the same! Just don't hesitate when you get notified, those events often don't last more than 60-90 minutes. And when you do go out, look through your phone first, this will help you understand which parts of the sky are the aurora and not clouds or noise pollution. Then you let your eyes adjust to the darkness and you can see it with a naked eye.
