dedicated to the masked cowards

144 BPM 3/8, F-phrygian dominant. A pair of Mother-32s provides the stereo bass. My favorite Analog Rytm with a fully analog distorted kit. Subharmonicon through Spectravox as the riser. multi/poly strings. Yamaha Revstar rhythm guitar. Osmose "insert coins" chiptune solo drop. No AI used in any part of the process.

Unrelatedly, for this year every cover art is a photo I took.

Holy .... that distorted tom/BD starting at 0:41 ... that is basically one of my fave musical drugs. Perfectly tuned and blown out and way too awesome geez. Sorry that really hit me hard it was amazing.

I kinda want a nice long cut of this - particularly the intro sections I could listen to for twice as long, at least, the movement and progression is really nice there and I could easily see you developing some modulated variation in there.

(also the lasers at 1:25ish ... delicious). Subharmonicon > Spectravox as poly strings sounds fantastic. I kinda want a filter bank lol. Have you put your Rytm through the Spectravox?

3/8 time really fascinating on this piece - it's working almost transparently, because on first listen it just sounded "right" and it wasn't till I read and then counted I really understood how it was working. Also now I'm trying to think of like, industrial tracks, NIN that were in 3/8 and I didn't even realize.

I feel like I am fanboying now. Also I should never write these comments on a keyboard cuz my cell phone keeps me brief.

I think it'd be really interesting to take the core elements here and roll them out to a longer composition - and maybe play up some of the more "hypnotic" elements working here as a means of elaboration. But f*ck keep those distorted toms. I could listen to that all day.

(seriously gonna go see if I can beat my pulsar into making that sound now okay done typing SORRY!)

thats one interesting soundscape. when the chiptune came it it kinda transported me into a mario galaxy vibe with those acid stereo sweeps

Loving the use of a different metrics, the hihat shuffle... and the whole kinda-optimistic-and-bright chiptune second half against such heavy, industrial floor makes the track really special.

Lately I've been using some analog mono bass and my method to get "stereo excitement" is copying the signal (via basic DAW duplication or real time audio splitting, then parametric EQ-ing / hipass filtering it and then flipping the phase of one of the sides. My two cents, if you're eager to try it. I've found it works quite well in the midrange.

Quite solid work, RPLKTR

Wow that bass is huge. What’s the difference between the L and R patch? Agree with neon I often wish for shorter given wb commenting logistics but I wanted to hear more when it ended lots of material here

What an unexpected side B. Amazing.

I love how well and smooth you did 3/8 without it sounding like fast waltz or "6/8 but lacking something". Also you did hid it a bit, it's super cool how non-obvious, but still clearly countable you got it.

I'd say some of the rhythmic elements sometimes felt too loud, but that was not a big issue - it's fringing on me nitpicking to be honest.

Great work, was a pure pleasure to listen to.

Oooof the groove from the start with that deliberate snare is so good.  The synth bass is excellent and really stands out with the chunky guitar.  The drums are superb, excellent head nodder of a track!

Oh, that’s pretty nice. That thumping base is a trip and the melody dancing between it and the snare drum and synthesizeris gorgeous.

Love a one chord tune! Groove is dope, nice details and percussions here and there. I like the groove the most when 16th notes happen more often. Early on it's focusing more on 8th notes and it's fine but it really kicks in with more delay and detailed melodies. Feels like the main melody happens around the end! would have gladly heard more of this! good one!

Really love how you structure pieces. There’s a through line but each section stands on its own too…very cool.

Bass, with a side of bass, a sprinkle of other neat sounds.

the groove and vibes of this are superb! bass is huge throughout, lots of lovely details sprinkled everywhere too. gorgeous work heart

That's one dark heavy soundscape. The atmosphere shifts however as you add the lighter high bell like synth towards 1:45. Great sound design as usual, this is awesome.

killer. thank you.

*that lead was such a surprise towards the end and worked so well to lift us out of the mire heart

A wise person said "you can't have my joy", right?

that's right heart

Its everything I'd want in a chippy track.
Loving the distortion, the hats feel superbly placed, and that build into the melody/lead is just chefs kiss.

What did you call me? wink

Goddamn amazing. Heavy but surprisingly positive. “You can’t have my joy.” Yes.

There’s the feel that determination and joy will get us through this. Thank you.

hopeful ending heart

Great stuff, that bass and guitar are delightful, the drums have such a nice cadence and flow.  The “insert coin” solo was a nice transition leaving a glimmer of hope and light at the end.

I agree with neon liminal about that sound at :41, it is like a drug! Just fantastic all around here, great job.

Dark and heavy with a touch of happiness at the end thanks to the chiptune solo. That distorted kit together with the bass really packs a punch!

I love the impact of your beats, and also how the impact is present in a stereo image, too!
Haha, i loved reading the dedication to the 'masked cowards', the distorted drums and menacing synths in the beginning definitely held a cold-hearted 'ICEy' feel wink
Nice job on taking it to a more uplifting/hopeful feel by the end heart

Massive, that low end feels so good. Great mood at atmos and sound overall.

Can we get down to zero chord tunes, though 🧐

Yeah. Maybe it's hope? Maybe it's what the French felt in 1793?

What can I say, Analog Rytm is my desert island device.

Glad to hear it, Miles!

the photo is so good, so threatening, the focus blur in the front is perfect

this has a great dark techno vibe, but the chip elements make it unique.  man maybe I should get a RYTM tho.....
