Escapism 12

By RPLKTR on January 1, 2026 3:31 pm

I welcome all critical feedback. Can relicense if you're interested, just ask.

the great return from the great far away

I missed this. I missed you. Then again, a break from the weekly pace was needed. Now I'm ready to do it once more.

Every month in 2025 I released one "Escapism" track (there's a playlist on SoundCloud with all of 'em). You're looking at the final one, as it turns out Week 1 of 2026 includes a few December 2025 days. I guess I could see some poetry in "Escapism 12" being the closer to 2025 and the opener to 2026 at the same time, but somehow that doesn't spark joy. While the continuity is a fact of life, if I'm honest I'd enjoy a clean cut from 2025.

In any case, glad to be back. Large life changes planned for this year, hopefully this won't disrupt my weekly output.

Unrelatedly, for this year every cover art is a photo I took.

···

128 BPM 4/4, C-major. Osmose intro pads. Subharmonicon distorted "rhythm guitar". multi/poly basses. Iridium acid. My favorite Analog Rytm with its hybrid TR-707 kit. Pianoteq Rhodes and Iridium lead in the coda. No AI used in any part of the process.

Welcome back buddy!

This was awesome. Epic keychange build crescendo near the end was such a trip and I love the chill e-piano play-out. Felt wayyyyy longer than 4.5 mins in all the best ways. This was so great heart

Oh shit that went hard. Fantastically juicy and interesting. At 0:22 my mind just went "2026 we're back baby!". 1:04, oh yes we're definitely back.

I am imagining that song with that epic religion of weeklybeats speech that was played in the discord playing over the buildup from 0:00 over 0:22!!

Good to see you again in WB and great convo with SQF last year.

I love the attitude that this track has. Electronic with swagger, ready to pick up a fight in the dark corner of some futuristic metropolis. Haunting film noire. Good to see the master back!

That buildup at 2:10 was nice and I like following section. Do you apply some distortion to those arms? They have an interesting consistency.

At 3:10, I thought “that was a great track” and noticed still a third to go. You spoil us. That final section has a sense of nostalgy and feels more like the dawn after a  hard night. The sun does finally show up.

Masterpiece.

We’re back woo them hats are crisp

In the same way chips are a vehicle for salsa I feel the tapestry of grooves is just a vehicle for me to appreciate your hi hat opening and closing.

Keys breakdown is also really good

Amazing work! Was a pleasure to listen and will definitely come back to it

Good to see you back!  It was cool hearing your convo with SQF for the podcast.  Love when the beat kicks full on and those squelchy synth lines float about.  There's a darkness to this bubbling about.  The energy is awesome especially when the midsection feels like I just got blasted straight out of a tube into a whole nother world.  The high synth line that leads into the EPiano outro was a perfect way to cool down after an adventurous ride.  Agree with ya about needing the break in between, but it's so good to be back with everyone \m/

The last minute would have been so tempting to break off into next week's track...feels like we got a twoforone here...really fantastic.

it is 2026 and RPLKTR is not effing around! massive track, great pacing and direction, what a journey!

You might be the first listener of my stuff to pay this much attention to the hats big_smile Also, this will be random so bear with me, the construction of that sentence is somehow really intense, as if written by David Foster Wallace. Kudos.

Glad you liked it, friend!

This could be the tagline to my biography.

Yeah, I know! But this was a deliberate sort of sonic diptych. The work is complete with both pieces present.

Indeed, the time for effing around has passed! Good to see you here, Josh!

I am trying to find it ^_^. 30 songs down, 410 to go.

Happy to see you here again!

Really like those deep synths. love the half time at the start, it feels heavier like that.

I wasn't prepared for the "outro" with the nice e-pianos. Very nice change of pace.

See you next week!

Yes the outro was awesome.

oh helllll yeah. That osmos wow. This song is epiiiiiiccc. I'm hyped for more 2026 RPLKTR! What a banger to start. Great mixing, soundstage, arrangement, drums, what's not to love about this.

Damnnnnnn! Coming out the gate with some serious badass vibes, my dude. The beat is sick as hell and the synthwork is super dark and edgy. Production and arrangement is excellent too, like that mid section at 02:15 where you drop everything out and come thundering back in. And I fucking love that synth line that comes in at that point too, it sounds so sick.

Offt.  HUGE SOUND.  !!  That kick just booted me from my chair and now I'm scrambling to get off the floor.  THis has a very doom metal vibe even though it's not...  and has all the early 90's synth sensabilities yet isn't that either.  Love the bit around 2:44 ... especially how you drop from minor to major and then back.  This is some serious complexity for a weekly beat!

Good luck with the planned life changes... I did a bit of that last year and it was pretty wild.  There were times I just didn't return calls let alone remember to fill car with fuel (didn't end well!).  There's no way I could have done WB.  But hang in there; even a simple few notes though a long reverb gets you over the line ;-)

Dude, this was super fun! I missed hearing your unique voice/style of electronic music, so I'm excited to hear your output this WB smile Also, I especially liked the Rhodes coda - super pretty. Then again, you'll always get my heart with quieter more emotional pieces that hark back to music boxes, hahahaha...

Exceptional drums (as always), I love the build at around 2:10. I really love how this track builds to such a tender close.  I guess great way to both finish last year, and start this one.  I'm looking forward to how you will fill the year with both music and insight.

Massive, had me hooked at the opening. Welcome back!

This is quite a complete journey! I'm particularly digging the transitions from the driving middle to the gentle coda. Nicely done!

Echoing the "exception drums as always" comment - and yeah, there's definitely some dark grit mixed in with the groove here. But overall the drive dominates - and I especially like when the drums mostly (and then entirely) drop away, has a powerful effect given how strong the drums are. And electric keys outro is *definitely* my kinda thing.

I'm feeling this mellow e-piano breakdown @ 3:08. This is good stuff.

That drum kit is just juicy, could listen to just that beat for hours! But there's so much to love about the abundance of synth voices fluttering about. It feels super cinematic, yet it doesn't need visuals to be exciting and engaging. What a way to cap off 2025 and enter 2026. Congrats!

you always know when there's some pitch bending in the intro its gonna be a good time. very unexpected but loveley breakdown at the end!

Welcome back. This goes pretty wild. Can't imagine what the other 11 were like.

Heavy AF for C Major, lad. Top stuff.

SHOUT OUT TO MY E-PIANO CONNOISSEUR SQUAD! heart

Happy New Year RPLKTR!

Here we go again!

Hope the life changes this year are no so disruptive - sometimes times like that can force some interesting creative opportunities when we have to work different etc. May this year bring you gratifying creative production!

The ending of this track is particularly touching - a nice soundspace to rest in = lovely resolution!

Those opening pads just grab your attention, I was then expecting a blissed out ambient piece, great transition to bring in the drums and up the energy.  The outro works so well, just when you are getting a little fatigued from the energy things return back to the feeling I was initially expecting from the intro.  Great start to the year!

solid vibes all through out it great job

Really nice track! Those osmose pads sounds great and the outro was a nice surprise.

Awesome track. The opening felt like I'm looking over a fog covered seascape, and we're about to set sail to conquer 2026.

If Factorio OST and Unreal Tournament OST had a baby, this would be it.
At least, for the first 2:50-ish minutes. then it turns into something much more heart-string pulling.

Really glad to see you are back, you are an inspiration, and I always respect your comments!

Yessss, this just growls. Its all low res textures and first person violence in the best way.

beautiful sounds, welcome back!

Great track, elements of it remind me of NIN a bit with that propulsive groove. And that ending…

Propulsive, love the movement. Drums variety is awesome, synths as rich as ever. Congrats on keeping the momentum going, and welcome back!

YASSSSS

I could see a whole band playing this live - sounds very alive and not programmed in the best way.

omg the ending! heart

SKURRRRYYY SOUNDDDD
