Persistent Memories

An improvised piece using the Moog Matriarch.  Three separate tracks were recorded with each one improvising to the previous.  All sounds and effects are exclusively from the Matriarch.  Love this synth.

A quick story.... all these parts were recorded when I was meant to be shutting down the studio for the night but I thought I'd have a quick play on the Matriarch.  I came up with the first sound so I ended up rebooting the computer and recording it.  I then shut down the computer and decided to tweak the Matriarch some more.  I then had another great sound so I rebooted again!  After that, I left the computer on and came up with the third and final part and THEN retired from the studio for the night.  Came back and mixed it all late in the week and voila.

I like the organic evolution of the rhythmic synth and all the textures it takes through the track, from peace to aggressive fuzzy boomy sounds. In the meantime, the pads in the back mind their own business and float above the whole piece.

I'm not normally someone who buys into the whole analog richness and warmth schtick, but damn if those aren't some rich and warm sounds. smile

i'm glad you rebooted, twice. this rules.
i've gotten in the habit of honoring the ideas and making time to record them when they arrive, even if it's inconvenient. i think it helps keep the faucet open

I finally did some arps for you.  Haha.  It was fun working the pieces together.  One of my fave synths.  So many amazing sweet spots.

There really is something quite magical about this Moog synth.  The sounds are so alive and organic.  I think with quality analog gear, the sound can be hard to beat.  It's all that electrical interaction and analog is not as accurate as zeros and ones so it adds that organic feel to it.  At the same time, analog handles the extremes way better than digital.  Digital has aliasing at extreme frequencies and horrid sounding distortion when volumes peak.

They both have their place though as I love creating sounds on digital systems too.  smile

100% agree.  Strike while the iron is hot as the saying goes.  smile. I love gear that's simply inspriring to use.  This synth is one of them.  And thanks!
