spunky mist

By Q-Rosh on February 19, 2022 9:30 pm

Once again I visited my old DATtapes with Drumtraks-beats and made a misty track with a guitar through many great reverbpedals for my 30 year old 8-bit beat. Then I wanted to add some more and used the guitarpedals for a warbling pianorecording. I have to admit, I am not a keyboardplayer, just like the aura of my piano.
In the end, after a lot of try and errors whith arranging, I had 30 different mixes of the same song and had to decide which one is going to be uploaded this week. I might even release a reprise or another edition-mix of this one in the future, if someone is interested. If not, it is not a problem. But this week I asked myself, why am I doing all this effort to tinker with one song? And my answer was: it is about learning to get faster in decision-making and getting spunky this year.

I like the idea of melding the past and the present into something new.  I've got some 20+ year old recordings it would be neat to utilize somehow this year. I'll have to think on it.  Lots of great textures as usual and a bit of a melancholy and contemplative mood to me.  I'd be interested in hearing some of the alternate versions of this sometime.

"warbling pianorecording"!!!!! yessssss!!!! like an underwater satie painting... i know i know satie was not a painter, but you just made that whole phenomenon happen anyways! heart

Oh man when that beat rolled in, I wasn't expecting it, and it blends so nicely into the atmosphere you already established. I can't believe a lot of what I'm hearing here is a super verbed out guitar, it almost sounds like a dense ambient synth pad or something. I can see why you had so many mixes though, I can tell the vibe here is pretty special. I think this is a good one.

The atmosphere of this track is stellar. I like where you take it, too; I could have happily just listened to those couple of minutes on repeat but I like that it travels and changes in surprising ways.

Wow, the atmosphere is really wonderful here- the piano ambience is great, and the whole soundscape totally works!

Thank you for listening and your kind comment. You had the right instinct. I used the EHX Hog synth pedal, EHX Cathedral and the EHX MM Hazarai for the guitar, but forgot to mention it.

Always appreciate how textured your tracks sound. There's always some rich and detailed sound for me to follow along, it's so satisfying. The piano in this one is unreal, it sounds like an old vintage photograph in black and white of people that aren't around anymore. Lovely.

Thanks for sharing! That's the kind of guitar gear I'm interested in personally, the stuff that makes the guitar NOT sound like a guitar anymore haha. Sometimes when I'm jamming with others I don't always feel like the jam needs guitar wankery but rather some lush atmosphere, so that's the kind of stuff I need to look into smile

OK, that is great. An e-bow or violin bow can help as well. But actually you need 4 hands to twiddle the knobs while playing the guitar. So, I used a prerecorded 4-track loop to have my hands free in this case.

Well executed. Do you ever have that feeling when you're sitting and you start feeling like you're falling backwards into infinity? When that happens to me, I try to calm my mind and let the feeling take hold for as long as possible, and this is the soundtrack to that.

Really enjoyed this! It was a great soundtrack to the cold snow covered February I’m experiencing.   A great trilogy- with each part elevating the previous, very good!

Such a calming meditative piece.  From the lovely wash of guitars, the warbling piano to the downtempo beat with sub the whole track has a nice cohesiveness to it.  Totally zoned out too relaxing to this smile  Well done!

Love the sound of the transformation.  Creates a great atmosphere and that piano tone was nicely deteriorated. A big contrast to the end section which was super crisp.

I love this and I'd love to hear all 30 versions, maybe you can upload them somewhere

Absolutely love this, great job at taming everything, such a wall of sound but never gets overwhelming, drums were a very nice surprise in the last third with the smooth sub

GET SPUNKY!

this is definitely 3 songs in one, great job

Cool evolution and journey throughout the track. Some really great atmospheric sounds.  Take on a whole different direction when the drums drop in.  Strangely dark and upbeat at the same time.  The beat has a bit of a reggae vibe.  Great ending!

I love the vibe on this. And when the beat comes in, wow! I love the sound of the Drumtraks! I agree, get spunky! Great work, Q-Rosh!

This really sets a mood. Yes, it fits this season so well. Love how it evolves, your songs are such journeys into the mind, and space. Always such treats to hear. I like the texture of the percussion that comes in .. woke me from the trance

I like the aura of your piano also, fantastic sound. This music kind of like phosphenes -- those shapes you kind of see when your apply light pressure to your eyeballs, which seem kind of vivid and interesting but hard to recall or represent in any way. (Really glad I decided to set time aside to go through your entire WB repertoire so far, excited to be doing WB w/ you!)

this is an awesome song! so many great sounds and such a good atmosphere! it's a great idea to put the piano through some guitar pedals. I love the warbly part but also the sharp kinda rhythmy attacky part when the beat starts halfways. Is that hitting the piano strings directly + effects?

It's understandable why you would keep screwing with the same song for many hours, it's super fun to listen to this! but good tip about just making decisions and moving on. good thing weeklybeats is here for us eh? big_smile

dear horatiuromantic, yes, I played piano and recorded it with a microphone through the same guitarpedalchain.
Thank you for digging back into my songs and let me say, I feel very glad and honoured you left so many nice comments.
For me, as an unprofessional autodidact, making lot of elementary mistakes, I am always trying to achieve a certain mood in the tracks, which I actually feel like. The main factor therefor, is leaving the the recording raw, experimental and unquantized, so that the imperfection becomes my srenght and upright music in the end.
Thanks and have a good week with lot of great ideas.
