command Q

By Q-Rosh on March 24, 2024 8:32 pm

this is a quick song done in 3 hours from material I recorded a couple of month ago. I used the SP404 for the beat and the jazzsamples. The whole week I was working on something else, but did not like the result.
By the way, I repaired another macbook pro from 2008, with a questionmark or a parkingsign after booting. I could solve this promblem after all kind of backup and HHD errors and ended up in a bootloop. I found out, that the shiftkey or CMD S could sometimes help to boot the macbook in 1 of 20 attempts. But then there was no audiocore anymore and the audiodirectory was missing. I wanted to give up, because none of the keycombinations or youtube tutorials could help me. My last try was a keycombination I usualy use, when the computer is running and I want to close an application: cmd+Q !!!! I thougt, whatever the computer is doing when bootin up, it might help to stop the conflict, when it stucks there. And, no joke, it is really really true, that since this moment, I can directly boot it 100% reliable. I have it filmed with my camera.
I should do a youtube vid now, saying bootloop fixed, with the magic command Q.

Sounds like you are a wizard in more ways than one.  The story suits this one as it has the feeling of a glitching piece of electronics that is finding its way back to life.

Haha that's amazing. The magic command Q from Q-rosh. Love it! Great upload - super immersive and dynamic

shift funky Q, as my high school music teacher would say. like this jaga jazzist glitch jazz vibe, great stuff!

Oh man, this is awesome! Nice troubleshooting too! Cmd Q for the win!

this is sick. I love the normal richness of your sound design with rhythmic glitchiness. delightful! I listened to The Books "The Lemon of Pink" today and it reminded me of you. congrats on this track. favorited and downloaded

congrats on fixing the macbook. you just wont let it die! are you running mac os on it or another os?

1. That groove that coalesces around 3:10 is great.  2. The way you got your macbook to boot is mildly unsettling.

incredible track with lots of interesting stuff going on! love how it all comes together in the end with the wonky pads, piano and bass. beautiful

Love the instant groove that gets going from the start.  This also makes a perfect soundtrack to your magical laptop revival story.  The beats in this are awesome.  It's like the drums took a tour of your laptop files.  Excellent work.

A beat, groove, tempo you don't use too often I think - and I like it! I was locked in right away. It's faster by not aggressive, just nice and flowing. Held on and kept me interested. Then all the burbling warbling (and other descriptive words) sounds flowing around are such delightful ear candy. Enjoyed this one

MAGIQ

Like all the sounds used on this one, so many little pieces/blips to discover, will have to remember the magic command Q, fortunately my macbook has been behaving.

The sounds you use this beat are really wonderful. It sounds so organic, so alive. I really like the sense of energy and the sound palette you chose there. Favoriting this one, I need to come back to it and give more listens as there is so much happening.

Always fun to read about your experiments at fixing old hardware!

I love these experimental glitchy tracks. All the sounds choices are perfect.
What is that main hi-hat like perc sound you use throughout the song? Is it like a shortened tight hihat?

I think it was a Roland R8 high hat sample used in the SP 404.

how did you do that ride cymbal pitch that goes up and down?

love that "pitched down band recording" kinda thing

awesome glitchy track

+1 on "The Books" smile

way to keep that old mac out of a landfill!
all kinds of nice layers happening here. digging the insistent but somehow gentle pace. I especially like how that tick/hi-hat evolves over the course of the track.

Very playful piece.  I love all those little micro sounds popping away and excellent use of samples.  Lovely guitar too.  Very cool indeed.
