You Can't Remember When the Soapstone Effigy Appeared in Your Pocket.

Was it just today? Last week? No...it's been there longer than you can remember.
After dinner, in your room. You're alone. Like every night, you sit and stare into its lifeless eyes.
That poor, misshapen thing. It's beautiful, in a way. Poorly carved and pocked from old damage. But if you look closely you can see it's meant to be a woman, her arms folded at her waist.
It's polished so smoothly. You've been keeping one hand in your pocket all day, rubbing little circles across the crystalline surface. In places there are old chips and cracks and have been smoothed away over time. You wonder aloud how anyone could have ever been so careless to have damaged her. The thought of dropping or - god forbid - throwing her is disgusting. Awful.
Sometimes - but of course, not for long - you have wondered if it would be better to get rid of it. After all, it is a bit odd. And people have asked why you've kept to yourself at night lately. Why you leave at strange hours.
A knock. At your door.
"One moment!" you yell.
No. You should keep it.
It's madness to think otherwise. After all, she is the only one who really loves you.

Notes: I wanted to do something a little darker this week. This was done on M8 tracker, and everything except the weird short "honk" that appears sporadically in the perc section is done using M8 synths. As I mentioned last week I'm trying to do all of my drums through M8 synths, the kick/snare/hat are all done using the FM synth. This was a good place for me to experiment a little more with drums because the tone of this fit better with kinda "flat" drums rather than big crazy hip-hop drums.
As for composition, I would have liked for this to be a little less melodic and a little less "tonal". I think I have a tendency toward melodic content that can make stuff feel a little bit too busy. I'm going to take another stab at a "dark" piece for next week where I'll try to be less melody-driven. I don't really want to get full into noise or atonal stuff, but maybe just lean a little more in that direction. We'll see if I can manage to make something I'm a little happier with.
I also decided that if I have time and feel inspired while making music for WB I'll start writing up little companion vignettes to go with the tracks. I've done it for some other tunes in the past and have had fun with it. I know it's kinda cringy, but I think it's fun
