THOUGHT PROCESS

I tried out a new workflow this week, which is where I ended up spending a lot of time ... figuring out how to do things, and making things work. A lot of the synth lines on this one were from my Hydrasynth, either played live or sequenced by the M8. It took a few tries for me to get parts recorded well and synced properly. I still feel there is a better way, and I hope that a few more weeks of trying will get me more fluent with that workflow.
For the song itself, I started with the main sequence line, with the M8 playing the Hydra. While that was recording I played the filters live. This was a bit tough, since I didn't have a song yet, so I had to imagine how the energy should ebb and flow somewhat blind. Same for the bass line. I think maybe next time I'll try to sketch out a rough structure for the song and then play to that so I have a bit of a map for what I'm doing.
I played the lead part live on the Hydra into the M8 sampler and chopped it up there for sequencing. If I had a bit more time and motivation, I'd redo the lead to make it more varied, but I'm still pleased with the result.
Percussion is all M8 macrosyn stuff. That hats are from the Blown oscillator type, but the kick and snare use the normal Kick and Snare oscillator types.
Most of the pads and ambience are Hydrasynth too, with some M8 "tinkles" on occasion.
I resisted the urge to fill this up with ever more bleeps and bloops to try to keep the spacious feel. I hope it isn't too boring as a result.
Thanks for listening and reading! Comments and tips are always welcome.
Cheers!
