SUBLIMINAL

Real plucks from my ukes and guitar! No time to explain ... gotta upload! Ahhh!

Edit:

OK, coming back to write a bit more after that super last minute upload. I think I made the cut by less than 10 seconds. Phew!

My initial idea with this was to make a plucky tune with actual plucky physical instruments. Using the M8 mic, I sampled a couple ukes and a guitar for most of the plucky parts. The bass is a wave synth and the lead is a Hydrasynth part that I sampled into the M8 about 5 minutes before the deadline.

I'm pretty happy with the result although I would have ended the song a bit more nicely if I had some more time. I made a few changes to try to clean up the ending but I didn't have any time to actually listen to the result since I needed to render it and get it converted to MP3. Anyway, if the ending sounds weak, that's why.

Ignoring the ending, I really like the plucky parts and the guitar melody parts. I like the bass instrument. I like the lead part, but it was really rushed so I didn't really get to home in on a melody that really clicked for me. But what is there is passable.

Anyway, I'm just glad I actually got this submitted in time. I've been within a few minutes of the deadline before but never within a few seconds!

Thanks for all the kinda feedback on my song last week too! Greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Daaaaamn this is so friggin cool. Sometimes the acoustic guitar feels kinda cowboy-western-y and sometimes it feels just dark and dungeon-y. And then the wobbly lead comes in and it's just a whole new thing.
I'm envisioning a cowboy roaming through cursed dark lands, trying to figure out if he's the hunter or if he's prey.
Damn, awesome job here. Even though you think some parts were rushed, you landed on something AWESOME. Super nicely done!

It sounds really good, I'd totally see that in Rimworld or other scifi frontier games, It's a bit melancholic, a bit hopeful, a bit tense… The lead at 2:20 is the cherry on top!

There's a mysterious and slightly dark vibe to this.  It would definitely make great soundtrack music.  I'm picturing some sort of noir detective movie with dark and rainy city streets.

that sounds stressful!

Peter, this is such an intriguing track. I love the journey, and there are some nice stereo treats listening in phones. nice work!

Thanks jegasus! I was definitely going for an ominous vibe and I think your vision of the cowboy in a cursed land matches what I was going for.

Thanks Cosmic Cairns! I appreciate this image you shared. Maybe if I come back to this one, that will be inspiration for what might come next!

Thanks jwh! I often end up with something closer to a wall of sound and those stereo subtleties get lost. Gotta remember that sometime less is more! I appreciate that feedback.

Those plucks and the heavy delay on other elements. Love guitar parts and shaker. The synth part that comes in at 2:20 really takes it to another level. Great work!

I have a soft spot for sci-fi/dystopian movie soundtracks and this one ticks all the boxes. Sounds great!
