This week continued to be A Lot (on top of the past few months)...so I thought it was a good opportunity to check out the Session Players in Logic 11. Sort of an 80s infused Pink Floyd sort of thing.

All told, good tools, and an excellent way to jumpstart an idea. Loved being able to set up a rhythm section and just solo over it to work out melodic ideas. You can freely switch around what patch is used on a track, which is a great way to try out new textures.

The chord track is a good reference even beyond using it to guide the session players - I like having it there for my own playing reference. The new interface is something to get used to, but there seems to be more depth in it than there was before. It looks like you can actually coach the drummer for specific rhythms to play, which saves the step of having to record those yourself in another track.

Great lead work.
I feel the slightest hint of latin infusion, especially the way the lead complements things during the turn around of each repeat.

Definitely some solid Pink Floyd vibes at the start there. The lead sounds great - I think one of the traits of a good melodic lead is anticipation - you find yourself getting hyped cuz "oh I get to hear that part again" - and that's definitely present here, it was really well composed.

this sounds great, really nice guitar playing!

This is so chill and relaxed, with SUCH expressive playing! I'm sorry A Lot is happening, but I'm glad you found some new tools to help keep your creations moving!
And I'm still salty I'll be out of state when you guys are performing.

Thanks!

You just sent me down a great mental rabbit hole - Latin-infused guitar...which made me think Santana...which made me think, I need to try a guitar/horn piece!

Wow, thank you.

One of the things I like most about the AI players is that it very quickly allowed me to settle back and just play...getting the bones of a song set up as something that's inspiring to play against, and send me in directions I might not have gone otherwise.

Thanks! It's my favorite guitar - a $70 Tele knockoff I got last fall. I can't decide if I lucked out or if low-end quality is actually that good, but I love to play it....feels so good in my hands.

Thank you, all the way around. Tools are good. Help is good! I'm allowing myself to Do Less if real life requires it. Last time I did a weekly project, I ended up stopping at week 29...holding myself to standards that only existed in my head. The important thing is to make stuff smile (And I am quite sure we'll have another gig this summer!)

You nailed that 80's feel, not in a retro looking back way but like this was written for the 80's.

There is a moment in most American martial arts films of the 80's where our hero has lost someone and must come to terms with the ass kicking they must soon deliver...this song, at least to me, is that moment.  Love it so much.

this is so sick. i love the guitar intro, and the laid back 80s style

I had a similar experience with the new Logic "AI" for the track I did a couple weeks back.  I really enjoy the guitar in this... the opening gives me strong like 80's cyberpunk noir vibes... so kind of Bladrunner maybe... can't put my finger on it, but I like it.
