Letters to Send

By Paisleyfrog on April 11, 2024 2:02 am

Another song from our live sets that's never had a proper recording done. When we do it live it's just vocals and baritone ukulele, but we have a bit more of a lush arrangement here again.

I wrote this on a 12-string in 2020 or so when life was particularly weird. Gmaj7 just has a particularly dreamy nature...I was singing random words along with the chords making up a melody, and came up with the first half of the chorus. I wrote the rest of the song around that idea.

Once again my wife returns to supply vocals - I love how she sounds in this one.

Talking to you
Across a great forever
Trying to bridge a wide divide
Wanting to find a way
To reach your tomorrow
But getting lost in the noise

I don't know what to say
Or how to reach you anyway

Letters to send, Letters to send, Letters to send
But we're right back where we started
Letters to send
Cause I want you to hear me
Letters to send, Letters to send, Letters to send
Like a paper airplane soaring
Into a void
Letters to send

Wanting to reach across and
Touch the feeling
Building a bridge to the time
Nothing I say could ever
Cross the chasm
Emotions thrown in a well

I don't know what to say
You won't listen anyway

Letters to send, Letters to send, Letters to send
But we're right back where we started
Letters to send
Cause I want you to hear me
Letters to send, Letters to send, Letters to send
Like a paper airplane soaring
Into a void

Letters to send
Letters to send
Like a paper airplane soaring
Letters to send
Letters to send
Like a paper airplane soaring
Letters to send
Letters to send

definitely sounds like a proper recording to me! nice tune

Classic sound - this needs an accompanying video shot in that soft-focus 70s style, filled with fields of wildflowers, a couple frolicking on the beach in slow motion, and lots of meaningful imagery, etc. Then it ends with just one of the couple walking on the beach by themself and tossing a paper aeroplane out over the waves. There were emotions in this one. Stop that, I don't want to feel things.

Thanks! I'm getting used to Logic's free tempo methods, this recording fought me a LOT less.

That was some great imagery...videos are in the back of my mind for some point in the future smile

This is not the heaviest song we do in the Emotional capacity - that would go to one called "A Thousand Cuts". However, you don't have to worry about Feels next week, the one I'm working on now is goofy AF big_smile

"Let us descend", it sounds to me, and that also works. Nice sounds you have.
