Breathless

Time for one that my wife primarily wrote. This week is crazy, and there's not a lot of time for music. So, I thought it would be good to do a live take of one of our songs that we haven't recorded at all yet. Two microphones, two tracks, one take. A bit of mastering, done. With everything going on, not overthinking and getting a track done quickly was almost energizing.

Also, I think my condenser mic is starting to fizz out on me. 15 years, not bad for a low-end AT2020.

Expressive playing, lovely singing, and amazing lyrics. If this is what y'all are like live I'm super annoyed I missed you a couple weekends ago.

Beautiful. The simplicity makes it really powerful. That and your wife’s voice sounds pure and authentic. It’s expressive, pitch is perfect, and not overdone. I could see this on the soundtrack of an indie movie or something. Really great.

this is great, amazing playing and singing, thanks for sharing!

Thank you smile Yep, this is pretty much our live sound, expect I’m able to do a bit more post processing (compression, etc) to level things out. Hopefully gonna have another gig by the end of summer!

Thank you so much - I showed your comment to my wife. I may be biased, but I agree - she has a lovely voice. The joke has always been that we started recording together because I have no business singing my own songs smile

Thank you!!

Such a warm and authentic song, beautifully written, played and sung. Your wife has the voice of an angel. Will check out more of your songs.

Thank you smile She definitely writes from the heart, one of the many things I love about her. She also sings on Baby Girl and Letters to Send. Been using Weekly Beats as an opportunity to experiment with a bunch of styles and genres. big_smile

Beautiful. A lovely melodic backdrop that lets you focus on the singing and the lyrics, which characterizes a lot of folk music but I also think you see the same idea in those wonderful little revivals of bardic traditions in modern times (I can imagine this piece sitting right at home in concert with Loreena McKennitt). And very much comes a sense of space, of being in the room with the player/singer, really lovely.

Thank you - the way I saw it, my biggest job was staying out of the way of the melody and not overplaying. My wife says that Loreena McKennit is one of her biggest influences smile

Been enjoying giving the recent tracks a sense of space - probably 20 weeks ago, fetalface suggested I put some reverb on the master out to warm things up. It works nicely!

Such a warm inviting sound throughout this beautiful piece.  Articulate guitar and beautiful vocals.  A lovely folk song to soothe the soul smile  well done!
