Minus Town

By Cosmic Cairns on June 19, 2024 9:09 pm

This started out just messing around with running an acoustic guitar through valhalla supermassive and then somehow snowballed into something resembling an actual song.

I will run around the mountains I won't rest
I will catch up with the sun before it sets
And bring its light back to shine on this minus town
Skies have been grey too long and everyone's been down
There were many iron walls all closing in
Now they've all been blown away by cleansing winds

I will polish off the edges til they're smooth
In the hopes of shaking off this downcast mood
Hammering and chiseling away at this sculpted frown
It's time to set things right here in this minus town
And wildflowers start to bloom up in the hills
Water's flowing out again through rippling rills

What a beautiful palette of sounds here. The acoustic guitar sounds great, crisp and cuts through the mix. I love how the tail end of the guitar solo merges seamlessly with the pad around 3:00. Beautiful summer track!

oh, i like this one a lot! really nice lyrics and vocal. that harmony was a cool touch.
big fan of Supermassive over here, Valhalla makes some really nice tools for sure.
'Minus Town' is a great title too. may we all have the strength to keep chiselling away and let in more light.

I like this a lot, love the soundscape, so many cool textures, the voice pad / mellotron type of sound in the breakdown is really great

Very serene and uplifting! I also like the chirpy rhythms and the guitar melody…especially the sound. The choral stuff in the mid section also very impressive. Great one. Nice harmony vocals too…

cool rhythm change up after the intro. Love the vocals. Agree with Ashen, super uplifting. Fun song!

Excellent rhythm change to get things going.  The guitar sounds extra nice with the drums.  Really cool anthemic feel to this especially when your vocals kick in with the strums.  Love the use of supermassive especially at the end, that's always a fun verb to play with.

Thanks!  Yeah, I was happy with how that solo merged with the pad.  It came off quite nicely I think.

Thanks!  I liked the ring of "Minus Town" and I also liked how it's a little abstract but also paints a pretty clear image in my mind.  I have enjoyed supermassive every time I've played with it.  I like running different sounds/instruments through it just to see what happens and usually seem to get some pretty cool results.

Thanks!  Yeah, I was enjoying playing with the textures on this one, and that breakdown just felt like a good moment to bask in some nice sound.

Thanks!  I always love harmony vocals in songs, so I'm trying to do it more often.

I personally needed a little uplift.  Thanks for listening!

I didn't know if there was going to be a vocal section at first but somehow after the opening sections I just suddenly heard it clearly in my mind.  Supermassive is definitely a lot of fun to play with.  I really enjoy seeing how it affects different sounds and instruments.
