Bees in the Bathroom!

A B-52s inspired song this week!

... but I also get the slightest bit of a B52 vibe on the vocals and I can't stop smiling lol.

I am very suggestible that way. So, I turned that Essence of Fred up to 11 and took a trip to my own Private Idaho.

It was funny timing - I had already been thinking about the B52's the week before and listening to Rock Lobster repeatedly...this just meant the die was cast. Last thing that had to be made sure of, though - I texted my wife to ask if she wanted to do a B52s style song this week (because no way am I doing B-52s without female vocals), and got a response of "You have to ask?". Yessssss.

So then, why bees?

My wife had a restroom in the building where she works closed due to, well, bees.

That's the Oprah "BEES!" meme in the upper left with the campus mascot taped over her face.

I had the music somewhat set, but still didn't have lyrics. So I asked my wife what it should be about. She said, "BEES!".  And then said, "Bees in the bathroom! Sitting there, doing #2, and suddenly a bee is staring at you!" Very rarely does someone have prime goofiness like that just dropped in your lap. Well, probably more often than most in my house, but anyway - it had to be.

She was also rather adamant I give her credit for that line. But of course!

I also collabed with Zone Limits this week and contributed guitar, bass, drums and some BG choir stuff. It's a great synthpop track with a sticky chorus...it's been lodged in my head all week. Go check it out!

I absolutely love this, hahahahah... Srsly, amazing job! I can't believe you were able to pull all of this together in just a week! Also, the female backing vocals are SO GOOD!

Week on week from one style to the next; not going to lie, it's really impressive.  Damn near perfect B52's and so much fun...nearly spat water when you did your Oprah bit.  Wonderful work

Made me giggle smile

Yup, B52s for sure. You nailed the style. Makes you want to do some go-go dancing. lol

Also, the exclamation point at the end of the title is a necessity.

Excellent B52s tribute, right down to the absurd lyrics (your wife has outdone herself). Your vocals do Fred proud and this track isn't just funny, it's a radio-ready novelty tune that NEEDS to be on Dr Demento. NEEDS.
Also, someone should collect a bugs-where-we-don't-want-them playist that also includes the Toy Dolls' "Spiders in the Dressing Room"

laughed at the lyrics. great creativity on display on here, love the backup singing! what an awesome number!

oh wow, y'all nailed it!
and yeah, that Oprah BEES gif gets me every time... love that you incorporated that haha!

and i will use any excuse to share this incredible black & white footage from a badass B52's show at Capitol Theater from 1980. what a band!

Hahaha this is a lot of fun, really nailed this style. As someone else mentioned ahead, your week in week out stellar tracks jumping genres is really impressive. Backing vocals were great, and the lyrics/vocals at the break were hilarious/brilliant. Bravo.

Thank you! This actually came together really quickly - it was fun sort of dissecting the B52s and finding the signature bits smile

Thanks! Genre-jumping is actually really helping me with the weekly process and giving me new areas to play with. (Seriously, I'm impressed with people who can stick with a genre - I've never been able to do that.)

Thanks! I definitely was dancing - did a first run through of the vocals, and they were sorta lackluster. I did it again while dancing and it worked out way better smile

Also, I think it's easier to do Fred Schneider if you envision every line with an exclamation point.

Thank you!! It was like a slow realization after she said it....."holy crap, that's perfect."

Thanks! Yep, we giggled at the Oprah-ness in the middle smile (Also, damn, that's a great concert - haven't seen that before!)

Thank you! I'm glad everyone is enjoying me running around from genre to genre like a squirrel on crack big_smile  Time to find the next shiny thing!

ha, now i'm singing Bees In The Bathroom to the tune of The Beat's 'Mirror In The Bathroom'  big_smile

Bees in the bathroom, please talk free
The door is locked, just me and bees
Can I take you to a honeycomb that's got glass tables?
You can watch yourself while you're pollinating

DYING right now. I love that track, my favorite Milwaukee ska band (Max & the Invaders!) does a cover a cover of that tune.

Also, watched the rest of that concert clip - how have I slept on Ricky Wilson as a guitarist?!? Love how he was able to pretty much carry the band, but also sorta stay out of the way and let everyone do their thing. Fucking brilliant.

lol I don't really know what to say besides I love this.

Love the Bee-52s thing happening here.
